Nancy Drew®: Alibi in Ashes

I love how we get to finally see River Heights and we also get to work with Ned, Bess and George. Wish we can see Ned like how we see Bess and George.

This is still one of my favorite Nancy Drew games after all these years. I like how we get to play as Nancy's friends as well, I just wish that you could switch characters by calling each other, instead of switching back to Nancy before switching to another character.

Nancy Drew is falsely accused of burning a building down because she's found in it... perfect grounds to arrest someone. Her bond would likely be really high, but somehow the sheriff likes her dad (a defense lawyer... private practice, so maybe, but still... even then... I side-eye it), so she gets to move around sometimes outside her cell. Also, her dad is well-off (they have a housekeeper), so he could get a surety to post her bond. The culprit is obvious. One more thing on this: so, this plot is supposed to be more realistic and I was actually kind of excited for this one because it's interesting. I hate falsely accused tropes, but I figured maybe the cops were on Nancy's tail and she'd have to find out who was framing her before she was hooked. Instead, no... we get an arson, which is fine... it's whatever. I do not like the accelerant used to ID the killer here. Everyone has this accelerant in their home/apartment/hotel room. It is a common item. Moreover, you'd need more than the amount the culprit has in their lair to cause a fire of that size that was sustained long enough to burn a building down to foundation. I love the small town Americana charm of this game which is so very Nancy Drew! Alibi in Ashes has a really interesting game mechanic where you get to play as Nancy, Ned, Bess and George all the while switching between the four to solve the mystery together. The supporting characters are interesting and it was pretty cool getting to explore River Heights. It'd be nice to get to play as the main four again in a future game. Definitely recommend!
