Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga

1st one was better. this game ran pretty horribly without dlss, and even then it struggled. i enjoy the franchise and what senua goes through. but wish this wasnt more of the same of Hellblade 1

Another cinematic masterpiece from the house of Ninja Theory and XBOX! An early disclaimer, this is more of an interactive movie than a game. I say this because choices are made for you and anything you do, does not effect the natural flow of the game (which is not a bad thing in any sense). It keeps you gripped for long hours because there are no natural "breaks" in the story. The atmosphere is surreal, almost magical at times and you have to have a first-hand experience to understand it better. Personal preference, I liked the first game more in terms of the flow of the story but this one is in no way, very far behind from it, for me. The backstory of the other characters apart from the protagonist, is also very well written and comes across well through the limited screentime that they are expected to have. The actors have done tremendous job with the facial expressions and movement mechanics and that has been translated very well within the game. Puzzles are fun and not very difficult once you get the hang of it. I really liked Hellblade 2, but honestly I liked the first game more, especially when it comes to the gameplay and combat. Hellblade 2 looks absolutely insane. The graphics, animations, environments and sound are probably some of the best I've seen in a game. The story is still really good and the whole atmosphere is dark and immersive, which is what I liked about the first one. But the combat was a bit disappointing for me. There are quite long pauses between fights, and when you finally get into combat it just doesn't feel as rewarding as the first game. Some of the attacks don't feel like they connect properly, and I didn't find the combat as satisfying. Even the music during the fights didn't feel as immersive as in the first game. The first Hellblade did a much better job of making the fights feel intense and memorable. There is also quite a lot of walking and some very simple puzzles, so don't expect a lot of gameplay variety. Still, I enjoyed it. The story, atmosphere and visuals are fantastic and it's definitely worth playing if you liked the first game.
