About Kingdom: The Far Reaches

✦ AI summary

Guide Lathan through a magical fantasy quest to recover the shattered pieces of the Hand of Mobus and defeat the evil wizard Torlok by solving puzzles and using the right magical items at the right time. This fully animated graphic adventure features branching paths, multiple ways to fail permanently, and real-time movement control that demands careful planning and resourcefulness to survive.

Long ago in a land of five Kingdoms an amulet, known as the Hand of Mobus, was shattered into five pieces and hidden throughout the Far Reaches. Dark Magic spread throughout the land and the evil wizard Torlok began his reign of terror.
Now the fate of the Five Kingdoms rests upon Lathan, the last of the Argent Kings. To restore freedom he must first recover the broken pieces of the amulet, but his journey is filled with many challenges. Danger and evil forces await as you guide Lathan on his quest of power and magic.

This graphic adventure game is fully animated and requires more than simply choosing when to fight or which way to dodge in accordance with the animation. Instead the player has full control over Thayer Alconred's movement to different areas and must find and use a variety of magical objects to overcome enemies and obstacles. There are many ways to mess up and permanently lose the game. There are several branching paths, resulting in different dialogue. The RDI'S Computer voice sometimes gives hints and the player's score.

  • A unique gameplay style based on using the right items in the right situations, or else...
  • Lots of classic cartoon video footage
  • You’ll be surprised how easy it is to die in a fantasy world!

Kingdom: The Far Reaches is an ambitious 1990s adventure game with a rich fantasy story and distinctive animated presentation that offers historical charm, but players are divided on whether its dated gameplay holds up. Common complaints center on confusing navigation, repetitive animations, mandatory sequence memorization, poor audio that obscures important clues, and design quirks that can lock you out of progress if you make wrong choices. Most players suggest picking it up only on sale if you have patience for old game design, though a few find it interesting enough despite its flaws.

very decent despite the fact that is is an old game. A very rich storyline too. It's a shame that the manual is not included. Also there does not seem to be the sequal, Kingdom Shadoan. Hopefully, it could be released here

Sorry to say this game is a p.o.s. Unless you are someone that enjoys memorizing sequences. Bc that is basically what this game is, you need to memorize which path doesn't kill you and how to get to items you need without it killing you. Traveling around the map is a horrible convoluted mess that has you going through the same areas and the same animations (thankfully skippable) multiple times. And likely bc of certain restraints at the time you have to do certain parts multiple times bc people will not remember you giving them an item to progress. Also the audio is ♥♥♥♥♥ which can make you miss clues. This happened to me in the first part of the game and since I was already getting a bit frustrated with the gameplay I went to YT to view a playthrough and never went back to the game. And that is my recommendation if you are curious about this game; go watch it on YT and don't submit yourself to this game. Go play Toonstruck, Loom or Sam & Max, but not this. It's not fun to play.

A hidden piece of FMV gaming, and a way to experience an arcade classic, the game is challenging at times, with some sections having you to think about what you have to do in that given situation. There are a few problems i found recently, such as the window size of the game, i don't know what happened after i finished it and didn't play it for months, but when trying to play the game again the window was shrunken down to a less than managable size, and the games loading was changed from a smooth fade to black to a loading screen similar to a picture trying to load very slowly, also worth mentioning that the game is confusing sometimes even to the point that if you do something or go somewhere wrong you're screwed, on one play-through i went to location and thieves showed up and took my stuff(that can happen at least 1 time in each play-through),which was fine except the location i went to would trigger an event in which you would have to show one of two specific items in order to be safe, however my important items were stolen and i was forced into giving an item i wasn't supposed to give up, and thus it rewound my progress a bit.The game punishes you a lot from just walking into…

Kingdom: The Far Reaches is a fantasy adventure game that perfectly captures the experimental spirit of the 1990s multimedia era. Developed by Virtual Image Productions and published by Interplay, the game blends animated storytelling, point-and-click mechanics, and interactive movie design into a unique fantasy experience that feels both ambitious and outdated at the same time. It is the type of game that immediately transports players back to an era when developers were experimenting heavily with CD-ROM technology and cinematic presentation. While many aspects of the gameplay have not aged gracefully, the game still holds a strange charm thanks to its animated visuals, fantasy atmosphere, and historical significance within the adventure genre. The most memorable aspect of Kingdom: The Far Reaches is its animated presentation. The game uses hand-drawn cartoon sequences to tell its story, giving the entire adventure the appearance of an interactive fantasy film. The visual style resembles an animated fantasy television special from the 1990s, filled with dark castles, magical artifacts, mysterious landscapes, and dangerous creatures. Although the animation quality is inconsistent …

This was a bit of a weird game. It's kind of a precursor to point and click FMV games. The gameplay really isn't that good, but I thought it was interesting enough to play through. If you like the style of animation and have the patience to put up with some old game BS, then this isn't a terrible game to pick up. You'll probably want to get it on sale, though.
