For the uninitiated: [i]Codex of War[/i] is [i]Fantasy General[/i] meets [i]Shadow of the Horned Rat / Dark Omen[/i]. You have a map, you have an objective, you have a pittance of turns to win. Between you and victory lies fog of war splattered with hotbeds of generally passive but intolerably opportunistic AI which just about always outnumbers and outclasses you. Out of the fog rises rugged terrain whose shape your force [i]will[/i] asssume if it wishes to win. Does not work on Win11, after a couple of turns the game gets into black screen and requires signing off WIn to terminate because cannot switch to Task Manager , so totally unplayable for me. I understand it's an old title, and I got it for free with another purchase, thus no hard feelings, just not recommended for modern PC. Got no error message or code and have no idea what is the actual issue.

Very unique and I keep coming back to this really awesome strategy game.......

I will recommend the game but I don't think it's for everyone. This is an old game and some of the mechanics could feel outdated. You have a band of units and you better take care of them because you carry them to the next mission. Homeworld does that too. The mission are quite plain. Spawn in A go to B. There is a maximum numbers of turns that you have to achieve this. The better you do the quest, the better the reward. You will love your units but if you keep loosing them, you will get stuck very fast. For that reason, I say it's not for everyone.
