underrated tradtional RPG game, not nearly as good as M&M 3 and 4 IMO but that is a high bar, still an excellent game, miles better than the likes of the recent Obsidian RPGs3 found this helpful
(I have completed this game multiple times on the Ubisoft Connect version.) While not a perfect merger of the Xeen and Enroth eras of the series, it's still a very solid world crawler in a time when such a thing is relatively rare. Skill selection is a bit more restrictive than I'd like, making some classes clearly more desirable than others, but it's still fun to try out different parties, and many of the rules can be easily modified to your taste. Warrior mode is also more demanding than you might expect. Do make sure to check out the AcidCave mod, which fixes a number of outstanding issues. Unless you specifically want to play (or make) mods for the Steam version, though, there's really no reason to buy it here instead of from Ubisoft. Most mods will work with both, and you'll have to use their launcher either way.1 found this helpful
As an old school RPG player, I love this game. It hits the spot for that old school first person RPG formula. While playing this game I had a ton of flashbacks and memories to games like Eye of the Beholder, and earlier Might and Magic titles, like 3 - which I spent an absurd amount of time on when I was a kid. This game has a lot of negative reviews - some of them talk about issues like Ubisoft keys not working, or the game crashing. I didn't have those issues, so i can't comment on that. For me it ran fine. Other reviews indicate that the game is janky and unbalanced, and not modern. Well.... yes. But that is what the first person RPG world was like back in the day, and for me, this is a faithful recreation that I enjoy. You should have picked up by now that this review is about 95% nostalgia, so take that for what its worth. To me though, that is a perfectly valid reason to like it. If you remember playing and enjoying old school first person RPGs in the 90s, this one might just click for you.
Most of the time the game crashes. It's an older game, so I don't know why. But over half the game doesn't even start up. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Great game but definitely has some flaws.
