FEIST

Stunning, haunting, and savage, Feist absolutely delivers on its promised atmosphere. The closest it comes to a spoken word in its 10 levels is the owl-like 'woo' heard in its looping soundtrack, and I'm pretty sure that's a woodwind. Still, a simple but heartwarming narrative is clear throughout. Foreground and background shadows make up the majority of the visual design, so along with the lack of dialogue, I'm left imagining I'm watching all this unfold from very far away or as projections dancing across a cave wall. Though this aesthetic doesn't leave much room for variation, nor does its tight runtime, it's hard for me to find fault there considering how effective it all is. Sadly, where I find fault is with the way Feist actually plays. The whole thing is an exercise in frustration. Some of this is the dynamic creatures reacting just a little differently every attempt, some of this is the shadowy aesthetic obscuring action in dire situations, some of this is how slippery and out of control our little fluffball of a hero is. There is a lot to say about this game, So if you plan to read it all, make sure not to forget your sleeping bag or your reading glasses. And don't worry: There is no spoilers in this review. Only my personnal experience and a useful tip that will make the experience more enjoyable if you ever decide to give this game a crack. First, I should mention that this is a game with the same feel and atmosphere as Limbo and Playdead Inside. Like most of these style of games, you're playing as the victim, trying to flee from danger or fight back. You're all on your own in this game, since everyting is against you and your only ally is perseverence and the very lackluster tutorial at the start of the game. Therefore, it should be expected that game is challenging, intense and sometimes unfair because of bugs either causing a softlock and the lack of invincibility frame after being damaged causing the ennemies to chain attacks after attacks on you until you die. But while this game can be frustrating, the abundance of checkpoints more than makes up for it for the average player. It is expected to die in this game, A LOT. a great, but short game that is really impressive. the combat is really fun and the "beasts" (bosses) are very fun to fight, i wish there was an area gamemode or something where you could just fight them forever. i really wish this game got a sequel or continuation or something because theres a lot of potential for more gimmicks, beasts, and more within this world i didn't find it too hard, it was the perfect difficulty for me but the last boss was noticeably harder than anything else in the game

I'm sure this game was a lot cooler and more impressive in the mid-aughts but in the 2020s it mostly just feels like a mid Limbo-like

Confused to see why this got a lower rating then the game Limbo, Inside, I was curious to try it and I can see why it got a lower rating. First off I think the pacing and world of this game is buns, your always in a forest and in a cave compared to Limbo and Inside were it felt more out of pocket and mysterious and also this game combining puzzle elements and combat elements feels annoying rather then great genre combining and a lot of times this game felt like you were throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if it sticks and honestly stuff just does not feel well designed also the ending of this game feels weird it doesn't feel satisfying nor feel mysterious so idk what its trying to go for and I almost didnt actually finish this game. But I finished the game to tell you that this game isnt honestly worth it and it feels like a slog, would not reccomend for fun.
