World War II GI

It's pretty damn awful... The WW2 campaign has its enjoyable moments but the whole experience is mared by terrible hit boxes, almost half the weapons being borderline useless and enemies that only register hits when they feel like getting shot... I really could go on and on with the problems here... The expansion, "Platoon Leader" is somehow even worse, it consists of 3 crappy maps with some inventive mechanics but still plays terribly, also random deaths occur with no rhyme or reason, just awful... I could see there was potential here but the game just has just way to many problems. Even when running with a modern source port like eduke32. Stay away... If you think it will be Duke Nukem but WW2, you'll be in for a rude and sh*tty awakening...

This game isnt really bad most of the time, its just really challenging. You can get killed by a single bullet fired from a bush miles away, by a random artillery shot or air raid that just happens to land on you, or by those damn mines scattered everywhere. But when you think about it, thats realistic. Thats what what war is like. You can be the best soldier out there, but a singe unlucky move and youre finished. If you need to heal yourself youll literally have to stop moving completely and use the medkit for 10 seconds. Its realistic, but boy can it get annoying. Prepare to save/load your game every other minute unless you got the reflexes of a fighter pilot. There are a few levels that are just bad and annoying. Youll be caught in crossfire by the op enemies and the tanks in this game are just the most irritating thing ever. But it isnt the couple of bad levels that make this game hard to enjoy, its the damn CONTROLS. Theyre just terrible. Thats right, the smart butts who brought this game to steam thought it was a wonderful idea to not improve the og controls at all so you cant move even nearly as easily as in games like Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior. This game was published a year after NAM in 1999 and it somehow managed to be worse than NAM. While NAM's deficiencies as a video game can be brushed off as NAM being a charming Vietnam War PTSD simulator, the same cannot be said about WWII GI. The game starts with Normandy landings if I recall correctly. You die over and over without reaching your goal. This is not fun. The rest of the game is more of senseless and purposeless dying and there is no sense of satisfaction in success either. There is no WWII heroic experience. NAM had some legitimate atmosphere and charm to compensate for the often atrocious game play, but WWII GI has none.

Bad, really really bad. I know it's a game from the 90s, but that does not excuse this game when SOO many other great FPS games came out even before this one. NAM was bad enough, but this is far worse. Again dying wayyyyyyy to quickly, randomly exploding far too often, running out of ammo and they never give you any, the BAR literally doesn't work/damage enemies and half the time you can't even see the enemies that are beaming you across the map in 2-3 shots from full health. I wanted to like this as it's a WW2 build engine game (really cool), but it's just a very unplayable, unfair and messy game. Steer clear.

This game is completely ridiculous. To start with, playing it without the Raze Engine app is a non-starter.   War is hell, and they truly mean it. The enemies in this game are world-class snipers, seemingly enjoying themselves as they lie in wait for you to peek from a corner, ready to blow your head off in an instant. I love this game, knowing that it is going to give me PTSD. I am determined to beat it, though. Somehow. Great game.
