Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30™ (2008)

Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood is a first person shooter. Gearbox did a great job with this game. Gameplay is excellent and the graphics are decent. As the story unfolds, you must choose between the success of your mission and the lives of your men - your brothers in arms. The Brothers in Arms trilogy are all World War II action shooters. Played this on my Dell Precision 3480 with Arc Xe graphics and RTX A500 discrete graphics. Game is very playable. The easy system requirements suggest Arc Xe graphics can play this at 1920x1080 easily.

Taught me noble odium for line of sight, Henschel vehicular products, console-oriented shooter controls, copycat Hollywood scriptwriters and personally Randall Steward Pitchford II - before half a year later a tsunami named [i]Call of Duty 2[/i] washed it all away. FPS were toying with strategic elements back then - like [i]Republic Commando[/i] around the same time or [i]Medal of Honor: Airborne[/i] couple of years later. Generally they were trying to do something different, aiming for a more immersive experience. But - again - [i]Call of Duty[/i] thoroughly homogenised all that into an even asphalt parking lot of spectacle for campaign + multiplayer for gameplay. Want an actually good "Yankees in Europe" romp? Play [i]Burden of Command[/i].

Here I am yet again, replaying this game and the whole series for what has to be the 100th time. Brothers in Arms was actually one of the first physical games I ever owned for my old big box computer, and I don't think I realized back then just how much this series would end up influencing me. This game is a huge part of what made me fall in love with military history, strategy, World War II, and especially the Airborne and paratrooper units. That interest stayed with me for years, to the point where I eventually enlisted as a paratrooper myself and served for three years in my own country. I also remember watching documentaries about the events and the unit on the History Channel around the same time, seeing the real history behind what I was playing, hearing from people connected to those events, and then going back into the game made the whole experience feel so much more meaningful. I've replayed Road to Hill 30 more times than I can count, and somehow the story still gets to me. You genuinely become attached to the characters and the squad, even though the gameplay is relatively simple by today's standards, the combination of commanding your men, maneuvering, suppressing…
