[h2]The Tape, a lackluster experience[/h2] The Tape is a simple walking simulator about a cult and their sins. Sadly, it neither offers a unique or compelling story nor gameplay that is in any way interesting or engaging. The highlight of the game, even with that term used sparingly, is the small minigame towards the end where you have to survive four minutes in an endless abyss of water. But even that was monotonous and quite boring, and that describes the game as a whole pretty well. The post game bonus modes are interesting concepts which aren't fleshed out particularly well, but they at least offer some variety in gameplay and a few short experiences. But that leaves me with one question: why put effort into three short minigames as bonus content when your main game is lacking in so many departments? Sadly, the main game just has nothing of intrigue to offer. Almost no story, nothing interesting or engaging, and it's remarkably short at about 40 minutes. I simply cannot recommend the game in any way due to its shortcomings.

It's very rough around the edges, but still atmospheric, with couple of fun gameplay ideas. Recommended for a quick and simple dose of horror indie fun.

The Tape is a short first-person psychological horror game that builds its identity around mystery, isolation, disturbing imagery, and the uncertainty of whether the protagonist can trust his own perception. Developed and published by Kazakov Oleg, the game follows a middle-aged detective investigating the disappearance of a young girl in an American suburban area. His search eventually leads him to an abandoned house associated with the case, where what initially appears to be a relatively conventional investigation begins descending into something far more sinister. The simple premise works well for this type of horror because it provides a believable reason to explore an obviously dangerous location while gradually shifting the focus from solving a disappearance to surviving an increasingly unnatural situation. Atmosphere is easily one of The Tape's most important qualities. The game does not depend entirely on relentless action or a constant barrage of obvious scares. Instead, it uses dark rooms, narrow passages, unsettling surroundings, silence, and anticipation to make exploration uncomfortable. Cannot recommend. Gameplay is very weak, horror non existent as well as story. This seems, like it was put together by a 12 year old. Cannot recommend even on sale.
