About Neofeud
Neofeud is a dystopian cyberpunk detective adventure where you play as a disgraced cop turned social worker uncovering a conspiracy in humanity's discarded underbelly of defective robots and genetic rejects. This solo-developed indie gem combines noir storytelling, hand-painted pixel art, and sharp dialogue with detective work and shootouts in a world where machines became human and humans became cold machines.
Synopsis:
2033 - We create AI. Sentient robots arrive, but not as our Terminator overlords or our Singularity saviors -- conscious machines are humanity's unwanted bastard children. A few are geniuses who design flying cars, beat cancer, invent teleportation, but millions of defective prototypes roll out of factories -- mentally challenged, motivationally-challenged, criminally-inclined. Legally conscious, but unhirable, these "Defectives" are shuffled through public housing and welfare assistance, straining the already overburdened back of the meager social safety net. The robots who don't end up in prison are dumped, as a last resort, into a massive landfill known as "The Pile".
Humans engage in perfection of their species -- or at least the powerful and well-connected -- genetically engineering children with human and animal DNA. The failed eugenics experiment "Frankenpeople" are discarded into "The Pile" as well. The new dynasties, 'Neofeudal Lords', live in towering neon glass castles, shuttle around in pristine nanotech-enabled pods, minds and bodies full of cyberware, spending most of their time taking selfies and "optimizing their monetization schemes". A race of supermen concerned only with their own status, their prestige, their success. Where machines have become all too flawed and human, people have become flawless, perfect, cold machines.
Karl Carbon is an ex-cop, dishonorably discharged from Coastlandia PD for disobeying an order to shoot an unarmed sentient humanoid. Karl is exiled to "The Pile" as a lowly social worker. There he counsels gangbanging foster-kid robots and confiscates chimera-children from deadbeat half-wolf parents. Till one day a case goes horribly sideways and Karl is drawn into a sordid conspiracy that could threaten the strained fabric of Human-Robot-Hybrid civilization -- or save it.

Based on the trailers I sort of thought the art style was done in a sort of abrasive punk rock sort of way, like they were crafting the world like an indie zine. But you don't have to play the game to realize this is almost entirely an earnest exercise with lofty ambitions. The art and the music for a sort of vibe that actually worked for me. The place where this game fell down hardest for me was the acting. I think we've reached a point where people will accept a narrative game that's not fully voiced. I'm fine with it, because having good voice work requires the ability to recognize good acting, find good actors, and direct them to deliver a good performance. Most people don't have that whole skillset. And I probably could have just turned down that little sound slider for voice if it hadn't been for the second issue: the writing. Clearly the creator has a lot of big ideas and a lot of thoughts, but there's a level of tonal whiplash to this game that's immediately exhausting. It will go from the most grim dystopian discussion to a sort of wacky over-the-top Futurama-style gag, followed up by a clumsy movie reference. It's just all deeply sophomoric and radiates with a lack of …8 found this helpful
You look upon a work like this extreme and immediatly know its either brilliance or diarrhea. So far it appears to be brilliance. I just finished the first act, maybe I will continue this review later. Update: I have finished the second act, and have lost faith in the game. It is starting to appear like a millenial paint by numbers Leftist Politics piece. In the last scene I believe almost every single sentence contained some pop culture reference. I thought the game's first scene where you essentially stop George Zimmerman or whatever was some kind of tongue in cheek, but its possible this game is jjust "White people bad. Innequality bad. Immigrants good." But with a beautiful coat of varnish? I originally thought this was gunna be some kind of demented 125 IQ Romp, but is this game just Rick and Morty but with Race Communism?5 found this helpful
I recommend everyone play Neofeud. I liked it a lot! If you experience difficulty getting it running on your particular set up (like I did), there's help in the forum (which resolved my issue and got the game running for me). Pros: - the unique custom art which really helps you feel the depths of the dystopian world the game takes place in. Lots of attention to detail was put into this. - the writing (besides a caveat I'll put in cons) is equal parts fun and light-hearted with jokes and in-world pop culture references to make the world feel relatable, lived in, and humourous while also making sure you feel just how bleak this world is and the real world struggles the in-game situations refer to. Taking the time to build the world with its own slang really draws the player in. I've genuinely laughed with joy and cried tears of grief and much more from this game's story and world-building and how it moved me. - the voice acting - for being such a small team and almost entirely all the voice acting being done by the game's developer, SilverSpook - is really well done and brings this game, which would otherwise be point-and-click text, to life. - the characters feel believable and I…4 found this helpful

just noticed this is 9 years old, what the ♥♥♥♥? great game, idk, the voice acting is not bad at all for being amateurish. the actions scenes are incredibelly sloppy, but thankfully scarce. otherwise, the adventure gameplay is not difficult but also not too inventive, although its nice to see consistent use of old tools in character's repository. the best thing about the game is its inventivness in how its builds its world and uses established cyberpunk tropes to build something new, like even the whole cyberpunk monarchy idea is incredibelly fun. i also loved the neuromancer references :) also, the princess is incredibelly smash 😏
