About Dystopia

✦ AI summary

Fight through both physical and digital worlds as either corporate security or punk mercenaries, switching between real-world combat and cyberspace hacking to complete interconnected objectives. Dystopia's dual-layer gameplay combines traditional gunplay with tactical network infiltration across 12 maps where coordinated teamwork and your customized implant loadout determine victory.

Dystopia is a cyberpunk game on the Source engine that places the player into tense combat situations in a high-tech world spanned by computer networks. Playing as either Punk mercenaries, or Corporate security forces, the player will fight through the physical world to gain access, via jack-in terminals, to cyberspace.

Cyberspace is a three-dimensional representation of the world's network. Inside cyberspace, players will launch programs to hack into systems linked to the physical world while fighting off enemy hackers and defending critical systems. Gameplay progresses through inter-linked physical and cyberspace objectives, some are completed in either the physical world or cyberspace, others only by a well-timed combination of the two.

The player will be immersed in action-packed battles, whether the player is a heavily augmented combat mercenary armed to the teeth with the latest in firepower, or a twitch reflex cyberdecker racing to infiltrate a cyberspace node; they'll be immersed in an action-packed battle. Only through skillful use of the high-tech arsenal we're making available and intelligent team play will players truly jack-in and kick ass.

Puny Human is a collection of dedicated and talented gamers who are creating this action-packed multiplayer game. Dystopia draws on the themes and concepts of the cyberpunk genre and implements ideas born out of years of gaming experience. With a competitive focused gameplay system, we hope to produce the next step in online multiplayer gaming.

Even though I've only fought a few 1v1 rounds, this game seems pretty fun. I think the thing that really sets it apart from other shooters (and makes it fun!) is the implant and classes system, and cyberspace. Basically, there's three classes (although I find that kind of undersells it, as you'll see) which each have four main weapons to choose from. The Heavy class has the most health & armour, and has the most powerful weapons. Light is the fastest but has less armour and health, and Medium is the balance between those two. But it doesn't end here, as there are fourteen implants to choose from! They are subdivided into head and body, and each class has a unique amount of points to allocate to those implants. (Light has the most, Medium has some, and Heavy has the least.) There's the Stealth implant which makes you invisible on demand, and is countered by the Infrared Vision implant. That implant however, is countered by the Coldsuit implant, which can't be equipped w Some implants are countered by others, which then also can be countered, all resulting in a lot of customizability when it comes to playstyles, and interplay between those playstyles.
