[h1]SHORT REVIEW[/h1] NanoScape is a retro shoot 'em up from SnowFlame, developers of the Turbo Pug games. It was apparently released just over a year ago and seems to have no valid user reviews on Steam, which says something I guess. I'm only going to give it a short review, I'm sorry to say. The game has no story, which I suppose is fine, but you know, a little bit of effort wouldn't have gone astray: "You're a juiced-up pilot out to save the world from neon-loving drones" or something. Oh well. It's a wave-based shooter, but your movement is restricted to one dimension: all you can do is move left or right. There's no controller support, but there is simultaneous keyboard and mouse support. I'd recommend sticking with one or the other, since trying to move with the keyboard while aiming with the mouse can result in a weird juddering mess. Controls are pretty horrible, often leading to your demise. Each wave a group of enemies appears in front of you and shoots, mostly straight ahead, but sometimes in weird directions to catch you off guard. You can only shoot forward, so you move in front of an enemy, let off a few shots of your abysmal-sounding 'pew-pew' guns, and, move on t…

Does not work in Windows 10+, I had to play it in my Steam Deck. Game is a space themed shoot them up, there are tons of these and this game differentiates itself by being first person. It is an interesting concept but controls pretty much consist on left/right only and the shooting and the camera always facing forward, while enemies may also come from behind. Not well thought out. Mediocre gameplay and only playable in select OS is a fail in my books. 3/10

anoScape is a shallow 3D rendered 2D arcade style shoot 'em up/bullet hell game with a twist, you see your ship from behind rather than, you know, a playable, usable viewpoint. You don't have any camera controls behind moving the ship left or right with the mouse (which makes the screen tilt, I guess that's an "ok" effect and maybe the only "fun" thing the game has going for it... which is not a good sign at all). Being able to view your ship only from behind with no other camera controls makes it difficult to see enemies and incoming bullets, and just makes the game frustrating and annoying, should anyone try to play it seriously (spoiler: Almost nobody has). From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. I got this game for free on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so I didn't expect too much of it. But it was a pretty nice game, it looked nice, there are multiple weapons (8) and a lot of different enemy's, it was playable for a while (I payed it over an hour offline, so you can add that to my palytime). So if you can get this game for free, it's not a bad idea, this will probably not be one of the games you will be ashamed of it being in your steamlibrary. The bad things about the game: -You can not aim your gun, just move your scapceship and shoot in the middle -The enemy's don't only shoot you, but will try to ram you as well, but the you don't see them when their past you so they can ram you from behind, randomly insta-killing you at any time (most of the time they miss, but sitill very annoying) -You cannot upgrade your vehicle or anything, any time you die you have to start over all again. -The music and sounds are imho not that good
