Raccoo Venture

Raccoo Venture is an absolutely brilliant game! It reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy with that sense of being just a little bit hard at times, followed by a little dopamine pop of accomplishment. The art work is lovely and the level design is ingenious at times. Even though Raccoo is a new and unknown character, I'll buy every DLC, sequel or game that Diego Ras puts out. I'm stunned to think that Diego Ras is the lone developer. Imagine if there were 10 of him working on one game. Diego has a bright future and it will be fun to follow his career.

Difficulty 10/10. Guide needed. Probably not worth your time. I got halfway through 17 levels in 10 hours. If the character is moving slowly, set the quality to low in the menu, and it will look the same but unfreezes the character to move at regular speed. I think this is a personal project of a solo developer, it's got a single name on it, so granted that comes with a set of pardons, some things could be overlooked with that in consideration...and I certainly found it interesting and had my full attention, mission successful. If it wasn't for how insanely hard it is, I bet this would sky rocket to cult fame. For a kids type game I want to feel like a winner for just participating, this feels like it’s crushing my soul. Maybe that’s what happened to the developer when they were a kid. Quick notes, there's only jump and smash. You have a small health bar and don't want to take damage, falling off sets you back to last checkpoint (multiple per level) and minus 50 coins per life (a really bad design choice). So if there’s a part where you keep dying, bye bye all your coins. Expect to not be able to find collectibles, even the pages of the notebook tied to the plot, and will only …

At first I was salty at this game because I prefer playing with m/k over anything else, and while Raccoo Venture allows you to, unlike some platformers, m/k really isn't the best for iso or fixed camera angles. But I eventually got over my own ass and tried with a controller and MAN this game is great. Mechanics are extremely simple with just a jump and a butt slam really. Everything else is just great level design and interactables. I felt like the dev really rewarded curiosity and exploration. Seems like most of the time I was like "Hmm, wonder if I do this here" I was rewarded in some way, from small things like extra coins all the way to necessary puzzle pieces and fun costumes. The level design is the star. Like I mentioned, I prefer fully 3d platformers, but some of these, in fact most of these secrets, are only possible because of the fixed camera. There's also really interesting and obtuse things that are absolutely not necessary but once you notice them and implement them going forward it really opens up. Definitely going to try to get 100% on this one. So glad I went back and tried with a controller.

a fairly fun platformer with some good ideas, easy to finish game, fun collectables though some are hidden in certain ways where there isn't an indication for what you should do. would reccoomend still

A lighthearted platformer about a silly adorable goober the raccoon. I've been watching this game back in 2019 when it was still in early development, and I was expecting something like I saw back then but... I've got so much more. So much better. The soundtrack is breathtaking and the style is adorable, I want to hug the protagonist so much. And it runs surprisingly well on Linux! And the soundtrack has lossless options.
