Game could be good, but in it's present state is very rough. Lack of controller support, and the need to spam mouse click to shoot are among some of the more annoying qualities. The controls over all feel very wooden.

This game was fun until you reach the third stage, which felt out of place and caused frustration. Eventually I will beat the game but that this third stage already ruined the experience for me. Terrible game.

Cada partida es única, y siempre hay algo nuevo que descubrir. John Mambo es un título que cualquier fan de los juegos de acción y plataformas debe probar y jugar. Es un tributo perfecto a los clásicos y con suficientes toques modernos para mantenerte enganchado durante horas. ¡Muy recomendado!

This is a bummer because I was hopeful. I kickstarted this a while ago (it failed) and I wondered whatever happened to it. Turns out it was released but in a barely playable form. That’s a shame because there are good ideas here. A Mercs type game but with multiple level paths and destructible environments? Great! In reality though it is a slog. I played 2.5 levels before the refund request. It’s just not built to be fun. Surprise traps. A slow main character. Having to spam click to shoot a machine gun. All of these are bad. But then you get to level 3 which may be trying to be kinda stealthy? But there is no build for that in this. So it just winds up being awful.

John Mambo is a compact retro-inspired action shooter that proudly channels the energy of classic arcade military games. Developed by Iction Games and published by Iction Games and Plug In Digital, it puts players in control of an exaggerated one-man army sent into hostile territory to complete dangerous assignments with little more than weapons, determination, and an almost comical disregard for personal safety. Rather than attempting to tell a serious war story, the game treats its military theme as the foundation for fast action, absurd situations, exaggerated violence, and humor. Gameplay takes place from an isometric perspective, giving each battlefield a useful sense of space while forcing the player to remain aware of threats coming from several directions. Shooting is naturally the central mechanic, but simply holding down the fire button is rarely the smartest approach. Enemies, environmental dangers, incoming attacks, and crowded encounters encourage constant movement and careful positioning. Some confrontations can become surprisingly hectic, bringing light bullet-hell qualities into the traditional run-and-gun formula. The result is straightforward enough to understand…

The game is a really fun beat 'em up. The extra animations, especially the part where the crocodile swallows us and we crawl out of its belly, make it very sweet. It felt like I was in an old arcade, and I didn't want to stop playing. The progression and difficulty level are adequate, and the well-calculated checkpoints saved me in many places. It's a great choice for those who like retro arcade fighting games.
