Daedalus - No Escape

[h1] Top down shooter in the vein of Quake. Even the weapons are similar. Basically two modes highscore and skirmish. Maps are dark and gloomy. You can only see what's in front of you so can't peek behind walls to see if there's enemy or not. Gameplay is ok for the most part. Levels are not very distinctive so they all look similar, different environments would be nice. It's multiplayer game, but there's no players online so the only option available is to add bots. 5/10. Daedalus: No Escape is a fast little top down shooter that takes a lot of ideas from old arena shooters and puts them into a 2D space. I play as a space marine running around dark sci fi arenas, picking up weapons and trying to survive while enemies come at me from every direction. The basic idea is very simple, but I like how quickly it gets into the action. There is no long story or complicated setup. I can start a match and immediately focus on moving, shooting and staying alive. The shooting is easily the best part for me. There are nine weapons to find, and having to move around the maps looking for better equipment gives each match a nice sense of momentum. I can use a more FPS style control scheme or a fixed camera setup, which gives me some choice over how I want the game to feel. The movement is quick and the arenas encourage me to keep moving instead of standing in one place. When several enemies are attacking at once, the simple controls work quite well because I can concentrate on positioning and aiming rather than fighting with the interface.
