X3: Reunion

TL;DR - Not recommended unless you’re playing it for completion’s sake. X2 and X3:Terran Conflict are better experiences. If you’re exploring the X-Universe, I’d suggest playing X2, then skipping straight to Terran Conflict. My Steam hours are not correct as didn't run the game though Steam. I probably have 60+ hours of gametime. I completed the story and did all the missions to get my own HQ. I ran the EXE directly with a limit of 2 CPU cores as this improved stability and performance a bit, found this solution in an old Egosoft Forum Post from 20 years ago lol. It’s an X game... If you want the definitive sandbox experience of the classic X3 era, Terran Conflict is honestly the better choice. I am moving over to it the second I finish the Bala Gi missions (I just need to buy my TL and the trading station, otherwise I'm completely done). The only real reason to play Reunion today is if you are deeply interested in the lore and want to see the conclusion of the original Brennan trilogy (X: Beyond the Frontier, X2: The Threat, and this one). Ironically, this campaign feels like the longest but easiest in the trilogy, and unfortunately, the least fun. Personally, I still prefer X:BtF because it felt tighter, simpler, and more like a true space adventure. X2 didn't quite feel like an Alpha, but it did feel like a Beta. I liked X2's visual style more because it feels less empty, more colorful, and much more lived-in and atmospheric—especially with its cool cockpits. X3 feels a bit dull and colorless by comparison, and it completely lacks cockpits. X3 trades that unique charm for a more 2000s modern, Homeworld-like ship design. Picked X3 up again after years away and it still grabs my attention

had not played for years and then only 1 hour,could not remember why. Reloaded......now I remember why. Did not play x or x2 or any cash grab before this,. NO tutorial,tried for a couple of hours,nope.Might be a good game,no idea.

From what I can see so far X3 is less about ship piloting (though you certaintly can) and is more of a very slow, first person Space RTS game about making your mark on the universe by gathering a fleet/allies. It's also more complete than Star Citizen will probably ever be and it's not online only. It's also got a great soundtrack. ...man the state of modern space sims is depressing.

Nope. When I get dialogue (potentially important to the story) I want to hear that dialogue. And not have the music drown out said dialogue. Happened in the intro cutscene and the first mission intro, and I uninstalled. And "it's a 20 year old game" doesn't fly, just the opposite. Heck, the most recent patch is from 2023. 20 years and they couldn't even be bothered to mix those cutscenes properly?
