Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection

A great selection of Konami classic shoot em ups from the 1980s! in one neat package! I'll start by stating I have played every single one of these games exclusively on controller, I have not tried keyboard controls so this review will be based on that. I've also never had any graphic or audio issues either, all games performed flawlessly for me. That said one minor complaint is the game does NOT like if you click onto another window, you have to F11 to resize it again, which is annoying. The games themselves are historic, some of these early games were the foundation of the shoot em up genre as we know it, Gradius/Nemesis might be annoying and unfair, some would even say badly designed, but bear in mind when it first released in arcades it was GROUNDBREAKING at the time, some of its mechanics may seem dated today but were new and exciting back in the 80s! and remember folks, these games were designed to squeeze every coin out of players! Now let's talk Haunted Castle, it is an awful game, Castlevania? nah! think Clunkyvania!, awkward hitboxes, horrible controls, bosses that really REALLY take the piss, and some REALLY annoying enemy placement, however the graphics look fantasti…

Very good arcade collection! Switch to older version of Proton: 6.3-8. Tested and working on my PC.

I wish this worked on the Steam Deck.

A lot of cool stuff here, some of which is repetitive to other collections by Konami, but there are some pretty exclusive gems here like the shooters that aren't Gradius or Lifeforce games, as well as the Castlevania arcade side scroller. Definitely worth your time if you wants to collect all the retro arcade stuff from the '80s & '90s that you can without paying big bucks for actual arcade cabinets or a pre-loaded Raspberry Pi. Plus, stuff like this is often on sale if you find the retail price is too steep.

Haunted Castle might actually be one of the worst games I’ve ever played. But in a good way, as I watch Simon Belmont fall over and die every five seconds and I can’t stop laughing. It’s a terrible experience that I think everyone should have at least once. The other games here are pretty good, although many of them can be found in other collections/pirated. Get this while it’s on sale.
