What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the game's strong narrative, atmosphere, and voice acting, which hold up well despite its age, though some note the visuals and environmental design feel dated. The primary complaint centers on locomotion controls, with several players reporting the default arm-swinging movement causes motion sickness and feels unnecessarily awkward compared to modern VR standards; while a joystick alternative exists, some players experience technical issues when remapping controls, particularly with Meta Quest devices. Additional criticisms include limited interactivity, repetitive puzzles, and
Interesting game BUT be aare you cant play it without extra effort
Not playable on modern systems.
I’ve never seen the Westworld TV show, but am vaguely aware of the premise. Didn’t seem to matter, I still enjoyed this game a lot. It’s on the slightly shorter side 4 or 5 hours (I didn’t find ALL the collectibles though). It’s also not a super “gamey” game. It’s mostly stealth and storytelling. A VERY immersive and interactive experience vs a game. But it was some of the next storytelling and voice acting I have come across in a VR game. By the end of the first chapter the story had its hooks in me. And they kept it going at a nice pace. The graphics on these older games always blow me away. I did not run into any bugs, although it did assume I was playing with a vice controller instead of the quest controllers, but it played JUST fine even so. (Controller issue probably could have been solved if I was motivated enough to play wired with quest link.. but I stubbornly played wirelessly with VD anyway).
I went into this game not knowing about Westworld and what it’s about and after finishing the game a few times I say it’s an alright game. The puzzles, mechanics, and the horror side of things are the same rinse and repeat experience throughout the whole game except for a small handful which will be chapter specific. It’s a story driven experience so the game is very linear and the interactivity is limited. The graphics and the visuals are really good for a VR game! Overall I had a good time playing Westwood Awakening, it only has five chapters you can finish this in a few hours if you’re only going to focus on finishing the game without collecting any secrets and such. Since this is based on the show during season two this game is its own standalone story with its own characters and plot so you won’t be missing out or confused about anything if you haven’t seen the show except a couple of times where the dialogue references events that took place in season one and one of the achievements as well. If you’re looking for story focus games and/or you like Westworld I say it’s worth it. It still holds up today
Worst vr game I have ever played and its simply because the movement, as someone thought it was a good idea to instead of using the joysticks on the vr controller that allows precise body positioning of movement, no lets make it so you have flail your arms to move. For me this caused painful motion sickness and doing anything in this game is unnecessarily difficult like opening doors. This game is a relic of early vr games and as of 2026 there are so many better games to be playing that has motion sickness reduction in mind.
I've played it in 2026, so it was already a little dated, but it still holds up. The environment is not as interactive as in more modern titles, but the game more than makes up for it with the narrative. From a gameplay perspective, it is mostly a walking simulator with light puzzles and tenser "hide from enemies" moments. Story and voice acting is top notch. Cut scenes take full advantage of VR depth and make sure you don't miss them with "freezing motor functions". The default "swing your arms to move" was a little weird to me. I immediately changed it to "use left joystick to move" (I don't get VR sick anymore, so that was much easier for me). It is still fun even 7 years after its release :)
