Craftsman & Crafsson ain't playing around, this game is hard asf! My high score is still zero after many attempts. It's got a lot of charm, nice soundtrack and a great retro vibe - hope I can git gud enough to see more than the first room

definitely will keep returning to this from time to time for some quick fun, however, playing it did make me wonder; is there a place for these kinds of old style games? games based purely on skill at one particular task. the obvious thing is to say "yes! these games are fun and people will still play them". but i am not so sure. think of it this way: wouldn't this game be just elevated with just a little something extra? upgrades, a simple story, different enemies that attack in completely different ways so you have to prepared for anything. imagine if this game was more of a roguelike where if you got far enough you could reach an ending, or if at the end of a session your little guy got to retire to a different house depending on the treasure you got. it's these details that make the game stick in your mind just that little bit more, give people more reason to keep returning to it. now the game is fantastic as is, but it does make me appreciate modern game design sensibilities. by being so stripped down it made me think about all the little touches people put into games nowadays that just exponentially increase enjoyability, and how long it took those things to develop. This is a fun little throwback game that takes a little getting used to with the controls, but once you do? It's pretty addictive. It's really well thought out and captures the spirit of games from the late 70s and early 80s. I can't wait for No-Dig Bill.
