About Garage: Bad Dream Adventure

✦ AI summary

Garage: Bad Dream Adventure is a bizarre exploratory adventure where you navigate a nightmarish maze-world as a hybrid machine-creature, solving mysteries and modifying your body to escape a surreal realm birthed from your own subconscious. This remastered 1999 classic stands out for its intricately interwoven world-building, RPG progression systems, and philosophical ambiguity about whether escape is truly the goal—all wrapped in an unsettling atmosphere that feels alien without relying on traditional horror.

Garage - This weird machine is said to create a bizarre dark world by working on the subject's subconscious mind.
The player character is thrown into an enclosed world filled with sewage, with decaying wooden buildings and rusted metals.
And he discovers that his body has been changed into something in between a machine and a living creature.
He wanders around this structurally complex maze-like world in search of a way out.

"Garage: Bad Dream Adventure" was originally released as a PC adventure game in 1999. In this game, the player character enters his inner world through a psychotherapeutic machine. He is turned into an odd-looking biological machine and searches for a way to escape from that world. Because of its unique world setting, it is described as one of the top 3 warped games or bizarre games.

It is basically a mystery-solving exploratory adventure game. But it also has many RPG elements such as character development through body modifications and intricate fishing system. And the story questions the ambiguity of escaping from the world and staying in the world.

One of the features of Garage is its detailed world building. Elements like energy circulation, ecosystem and how the world came about are intertwined tightly, and are reflected in the game system, bringing to life the feel of the deep another world. The unique feeling of strangeness and anxiety surrounding the whole game, even though it is not a horror or depressing game, is created by these settings and system.

In this remastered version, almost all images have been retouched, videos have been revised using AI frame interpolation, user-interface and game balance have been improved, and new chapters, subquests and multiple endings have been added.

Garage: Bad Dream Adventure impresses players with its exceptional art direction, surreal atmosphere, and unique blend of point-and-click adventure with fishing mechanics set in a biomechanical world exploring trauma and memory. However, players are divided on whether the game delivers on its mysterious premise, with some finding the story underdeveloped and the fishing-focused gameplay unexpected, while others praise its narrative and visual storytelling.

"Is there anything you feel uneasy about? It will be alright. Please trust Garage. You are certain to find whatever it is you desire." Garage, a rusted and bio mechanical manifestation of the human mind that explores repressed feelings, trauma, and a buried past. Taking place inside a bleak, surrealistic, and deeply immersive world, garage is a point and click adventure game with elements of resource management in a town where many are seemingly trapped. Your goal is to search for your shadow and inevitably, a way out. The art direction in Garage is fantastic, showcasing dull greys with metal and rust that coat the buildings with the few occasional colors exuding from advertisements and the dim glow of illuminating light bulbs that scatter the town. Its a lonely and strange feeling. Along with the visual presentation, the soundtrack does a great job of covering the game in a layer of thick droning ambience that whirls and echoes enhancing the twisting dream like state of Garage. Many tracks were highly effective in pulling me deeper into the bleakness of the atmosphere. The gameplay consists of fishing, solving puzzles, managing your fuel level, trading items, and talking to …

It's basically a fishing game. When I bought it, I thought it would be a mystery game or have an interesting story behind it (which it does, but it's not as well-developed as you'd think). The point is, if you want to play a fishing game with a weird aesthetic, this game is for you. But if, like me, you're looking for mystery, solving puzzles, and things like that, this game isn't for you

Some of the best art I have seen in a game. All environments and character design perfectly compliment each other; even the map (which feels maze-like first time around) If you are new to point and click adventures this is is gonna be hard to top. Fish for "aquatic machines" for currency/side missions/etc while powering up your machine's Ego and Fuel meter using various parts acquired to complete your quest of piecing together your reality. (10/10 Visuals) (10/10 Story) *Traversal will start to feel slow once you have really understood map*
