NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 2 is a lovingly curated compilation that celebrates a unique and often overlooked chapter in handheld gaming history. Developed and published by SNK, this second volume follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by bringing another round of NEOGEO Pocket Color classics to modern platforms, including PC via Steam. The collection is more than just a nostalgic novelty—it’s a showcase of inventive game design from the late 1990s and early 2000s, with titles that still manage to charm and challenge despite their age and technical limitations. The collection includes ten games, each originally released for SNK’s NEOGEO Pocket Color handheld console. While the first volume leaned heavily into SNK’s fighting game heritage, Volume 2 diversifies the lineup with a broader selection of genres. You’ll still find excellent fighters like “SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash” and “The King of Fighters: Battle de Paradise,” but there are also sports titles, action games, and even a strategy RPG. This variety makes Volume 2 feel more complete as a representation of what the NEOGEO Pocket Color was capable of, both in gameplay and in tone. One of the most notabl…7 found this helpful
While the games are enjoyable, I will not recommend this collection due to the lack of translation for games that sorely need them. King of Fighters Battle de Paradise is an incomplete experience. The player is expected to navigate through dialogue options that can make the difference between winning and losing, which is not tenable if the player does not know Japanese. I had to consult an FAQ to figure out how to change the difficulty to easy and save the game. The KoF BdP mini games are particularly frustrating as the explanations are in Japanese. While the manual has been translated to English, it lacks all the previously mentioned in-game information. There is an achievement tied to this game which requires a moderate amount of effort to complete.5 found this helpful
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ Another Great Collection — But Missing Key Translations and a Classic! The NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 2 is another fantastic release that continues SNK’s wonderful effort to preserve its handheld legacy. Like the first volume, this collection is packed with charm, great gameplay, and an authentic retro feel that perfectly captures what made the Neo Geo Pocket Color so special. The emulation quality is excellent once again — the games run smoothly, the presentation is clean and stylish, and the optional Neo Geo Pocket frame gives everything that nostalgic handheld touch. SNK really nails the presentation, and the inclusion of lesser-known titles shows genuine care for the company’s history. However, there are a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning. Several of the included games remain Japanese-only, with no English translation options. It’s disappointing because these titles have a lot to offer, but the language barrier makes them difficult to fully enjoy for non-Japanese players. Even a simple in-game translation or subtitle option would’ve gone a long way. Another noticeable omission is SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters 2, one of the most beloved and unique games…1 found this helpful
card fighters clash + some other games
It's a lovely game.
Both this AND Vol.2 are BOTH worth it, when discounted! They both have great video games...each with their own selection of them! To be honest? The Neo Geo Pocket is AWESOME; it was just too ahead of it's time!
