Imaginary Friend Asylum

Loved the art style, and the Friends!! However i felt game play was lacking. i washed my face, combed my hair, and brushed my teeth more than anything. Captivating plot and good twists and turns as the story unfolds. i think if there was a sequel i think it should be friend focused in a surreal world. Kudos to the creators.

I bought this game expecting it to be a kind of silly jumpscare-fest that demonizes the mentally ill, but was pleasantly surprised to find an actually sensitive portrayal of the abuse that asylum patients endured in the mid 20th century. It's a very charming game with an interesting story and a cool art style that I feel has been horribly mis-marketed. The best example I can give for the mis-marketing is that the imaginary friend in the bottom center right of the cover image only looks like that on the back of his head. The front of his head is a cutesy easel with a smiley face. I would have played this a lot sooner if I knew there was actual substance and nuance to this game. Perhaps these are backhanded compliments ("I thought your game was gonna suck but it was surprisingly good"), but I sincerely enjoyed my time and recommend this to anyone who can stand the brutal subject matter and jumpscares.

One of the most unique games I've played in a while. The story is honestly really good and anyone who likes linear story games.

The best part of this game is undoubtedly the character designs. Despite the children and adults having little to no defining features, the imaginary friends are visually stunning and extremely interesting to look at. The overall narrative is well-written, if a tad cliche here and there; but I sort of feel like that makes this game all the more charming. In my opinion, this game is a hidden gem. The mechanics are solid, it has some good little jumpscare moments, and it's well worth the purchase!
