Islands & Trains

As someone who loves to play with train sets I can't be too harsh on this game. It's an adorable little game with some great features that make it fun and simple to build many different types of islands, from barren to bustling. Unfortunately it needs more than a little work. Fixes like train cars not disappearing from saved islands and red signals actually stopping a trains throttle instead of just smashing it into an invisible wall, allowing building beneath underpasses and bridges, and tracks routing trains in the wrong directions. Improvements like being able to place certain pieces closer together and wider/better camera angle limits would be great too. An E-Stop and 'All Stop' button for the trains, and not just a few more locomotives but options to change engine and car colors would be so sweet. Also Diesel engines making the proper sound and horns would be wonderful too. These little things are the difference between and yes and no. I got in on sale for $3 and don't regret it, I wouldn't buy it for $7.

This game is an absolute GEM. It's simple enough to be a vibe game but complicated enough to make very detailed scenes. Its got a small install size and costs less than most fast food orders. 10/10 so far. My only wish was that there was a night time setting, dynamic building lights if possible for night time, and some sort of life to the towns like little people milling about or something. Just to really flush out the lived in feel of the towns.

It's got islands, it's got trains. 10/10 for accurate title. But seriously, the best thing about this game is how quickly it lets you create. There's a SUPER quick tutorial (like, 2 minutes, tops) and then the sandbox is utterly and completely yours. There's nothing to unlock, nothing you have to grind for or wait to access; everything is yours to do with as you please the very second the tutorial ends, and it's so refreshing. Multiple save slots too. Create an island, hit save and start a new one, rinse and repeat. This game just lets you create fun little islands with fun little train routes and fun little towns, and it's everything I wanted from a game called "Islands and Trains." Very easy recommend.

The Building System is pretty limited. You can do build a lots of things, but if you want to think a little out side the box its not made for that. e.g. Building Houses overwrite without ui feed back. You place another one, think you can neatly merge them into a new big building but no the old one vanish (and with merge i dont mean that a new house i just mean 2 models overlap with visual artefacts idc). Same for tracks, i wanted to build a small station on the lighthouse with the rock. You cant do that because you can not build in the tiles where the lighthouse rock is. So ok.. the build system is not for me then i want to explor other ones builds...... yeah no workshop to share levels. Games where the only goal is building what you like... and no share system ? That is crazy.

This is a relaxing, cozy game about building a pretty world for your trains to run through. I enjoyed it a lot and definitely recommend it if you're into games like Tiny Glade or Dorfromantik. While it's supposed to be about trains, I found myself distracted more by enjoying the map and forgetting to focus more on the trains. [u]Pros[/u]: - Beautiful world. - Didn't experience bugs or crashes. - Ran smoothly. - Relaxing. - Easy to create a cozy world. - "Variations" - game automatically swaps between variations of buildings or numbers of trees/animals per tile so that you don't have to manually do that. There's also an option to turn this off. - Can lock camera on the train to enjoy watching it. - Undo button! [u]Cons[/u]: - Controls are clunky at times and sometimes randomly reset. - The lock camera to watch the train doesn't move smoothly. When moving left to right (or vice versa), it jumps instead of sliding. - Game froze for 10-15 seconds when adding or deleting a large amount of items at once.

Thoroughly enjoying this game. A very simple, relaxing way to build cities, industries, and trains to connect them without it getting too complicated. As it sits, this game is phenomenal for a chill experience and well worth the money if you just want to sit down and build trains. Would love to see additional and (just slightly) more realistic trains, along with railcars becoming standalone and moveable rather than static to the trains. Having rail yards and shunting would put this game through the roof for me.
