About Pluto

✦ AI summary

Pluto is a roguelike deckbuilder where you cast spells by drawing elemental patterns with your fingers to fight through a hostile world and reach your niece's birthday party. What sets it apart is its gesture-based spellcasting system where overlapping recipes create emergent synergies, turning each turn into a puzzle that rewards clever experimentation over memorization.

A roguelike deckbuilder where you fight with your fingers, spill some blood, and try to make it to your niece’s birthday on time. You’re a wizard. A not-so-heroic wizard imprisoned for wizard crime, awoken from your wizard slumber by an invitation from your niece. Escape from jail and traverse a hostile world crawling with danger. Every turn is a frenzy of spell sigils, cracking bones, and desperate gestures as you shred through monstrosities with raw elemental power. You’re not the chosen one, you’re just trying to be a good uncle.💀 Master Tactical SpellcraftThis isn’t your usual “play the biggest card” deckbuilder.Every spell is built from elemental patterns cast directly with your fingers. Recipes can overlap and combine, sparking strategies that reward clever play and experimentation.

You’ll discover emergent synergies not just in what you play, but how you cast it — turning each turn into a high-stakes puzzle full of risk, reward, and happy little accidents.🩸 Gory, never Grim
  • Explore a hand-drawn dark fantasy world of cursed ruins and haunted forests
  • Face grotesque and absurd monsters, oozing with menace and dread

  • 8+ playable characters, each bending the spellcasting system in unique ways
  • One-hour runs - perfect for single-session wins
What begins as simple patterns quickly grows into a web of interactions — rewarding experimentation and cleverness over rote memorization.-------Developed by two co-creators sharing all duties, with every 2D asset crafted by dedicated artist DITCH WITCH and creative consulting from Black Lotus Software.

✦ AI summary

Pluto features a unique magic-based battle system with an interesting art style that players find engaging once they learn the mechanics, but the game suffers from balance issues, enemy encounters that drag on too long, and some unclear or incorrect card descriptions that can confuse gameplay. While the core concept is creative and the technical execution is solid, most players see it as a serviceable but not essential experience that's best experienced through the demo first before committing.

The elemental card combos, esoteric gifts, and rings are satisfying mechanics. I love the idea of a wizard inscribing spells to each individual finger. The hand-drawn artwork is also delightfully grotesque, and I'd love to see more games in this style.

$18 is kind of a big ask for a roguelike lacking any real meta-progression at all. I think it's better positioned at around $10-12, BUT - The game is artistically and thematically awesome. It meaningfully innovates on a growing genre. And it's great fun. I've seen reviews saying that it lacks variety, and while I won't argue against that, I will say there is plenty here for game design nerds to sink their teeth into. The simpler characters help you build fundamentals as you experience the campaign (which gets plenty complicated anyway), and each of the more advanced characters offers at least a couple of rewarding sessions of learning and mastery. The Paladin, for example, seriously challenged my ability to interact with his core mechanics while also planning ahead during fights, until it started to click. That's one of my fondest memories playing the game so far, and 7 hours in, having already finished a couple of runs, I still feel like I'm just scratching the surface of what's possible with the game's systems.

Addictive mechanics and incredible artstyle. The atmosphere is great and the game makes you feel smart, once you learn how everything fits together.

I have a personality that if I am lost I will not stop to ask for help or directions. So, 27 hours later, I finally beat the game with the apprentice. I probably should have played the tutorial first to cut down on coming close to rage quitting the game. Great game! If you buy the game, play the tutorial first!
