About HOMESICKNESS

A psychological computer game by jnity, assisted by celesware

WILL THE FAMILIAR FACES RETURN?

HOMESICKNESS is a solely developed point-and-click free-roam psychological horror game that delves into the depths and nuances of nostalgia and primitive online media.Step into the shoes of Theo as he explores the empty, desolate halls of CHILDREEF, making his way to the lower floors. With the Kids' Multi-tool, uncover hidden exits and find your way down as you attempt to make sense of what is happening.Explore, collect items, find special tools for survival, and overcome what awaits in the seemingly empty corridors of CHILDREEF.With each game over, things begin to change. Previously visited paths become blocked, and disorientation starts to set in.Keep an eye on unseen corners; you are not alone.

LEST THE UNSEEN CORNERS HARBOR HIDDEN TRUTHS

You play as young Theo, awakening in a place long forgotten. In his possession is a lone tape, left behind by a loved one who holds a place in his heart. The remnants of the tape serve as your only guide, leading you deeper into the daycare of CHILDREEF. As you listen to the tape's fragmented messages, clues begin to emerge. The voice that speaks on the other end is the one that will guide you. She waits for you to come, on your way down.

CORE FEATURES

  • Point-and-click free-roam exploration spanning three segments, where every corner must be checked; every item has a purpose.

The game has a great artstyle and a good concept, but I got to the end of chapter 2 and I just couldn't complete it. The game's voice acting is fine for what it is, but I feel like maybe a bit too much exposition starting out. My main issue was that one of the randomly generated codes contained three numbers that looked either like 8s or 9s, with how low-res the game is combined with the font I just couldn't make it out and before I could try all combinations I got killed by the constant onslaught of enemies which can all attack at the same time. I just couldn't be bothered to replay it from the start to look through empty rooms again and again.

This game is insanely annoying to play- you have to search through a bunch of rooms to find codes to exit, but things are constantly bothering me. It tries to be like FNAF, but here instead of them being actual threats they're annoyances between me and the exit: I go a few rooms, their cooldowns refresh and I have 4 or so things to click or do on my screen, I go like 2 rooms, their cooldowns refresh etc. If I mess up, it's back to the start. Ok, time to go through the process and the rooms again, hoping I react well this time (my favorite thing was when one of them appeared offscreen and instakilled me when I looked over)...

Listen, I really wanted to like this game. Hell, I really wanted to finish it. But I can't. It's at a state that to me is just unplayable. I had to watch the rest on YouTube because I really could not be bothered to try over and over again after reaching chapter 2, where the entities would actually just kill me over and over again because I either didn't look away within a 1 second window, or didn't open the damn phone and clicked a button under 2 seconds. Then I'd have to start from the very beginning, losing any progress I made. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. Sometimes I'd even get multiple enemies in the same room, how the hell am I even supposed to manage that? Not to mention the codes, were actually unreadable and pixelated. Then the game forces me to put in the code, while also suffering a barrage of entities every 5 seconds interrupting me and forcing me to leave the room. I'm sorry, it really is a shame. I liked the story, the analog horror, the entire aesthetic even. But I can't put myself to play through any more of it.

i really enjoyed my time with the game. i've seen some people in the reviews complain about the mechanics and difficulty of chapter 2, but i personally never had issue with it. my only issue is that after you die a couple of times, which i did on chapter 1, it gets a bit tedious and the horror aspect dissipates quickly because of that, but chapter 2 was really tense with the combos, yet never felt too difficult for me. the story, despite being really simple, resonated with me a lot, and the aesthetics and vibes pf this game are top notch. the game is definitely not for everyone, but i'd recomment you try it, as you might just be the target audience. will definitely be trying out the post-game content.
