✦ AI summary

From The Past is a slower-paced horror experience that succeeds in building atmosphere and tension through sound design and environmental storytelling, but stumbles with tedious walking mechanics, excessive darkness that hinders visibility, and repetitive scares like mannequins that feel more glitchy than frightening.

Probably the weakest of JustTomcuk games I've played, but still enjoyable. Like the other games it does great at creating anxiety using sounds and the atmosphere.

This one didn't make it. Very slow, half the time you don't see where you are going and the distortion on the infrared camera is excessive. Also I am getting a bit tired of the mannequins spawning in front of you in every game of Tomcuk...it's not a jumpscare anymore, it looks more like a bug.

Decent little horror experience. I quite enjoyed it, except for the slow movement, like walking through mud and the head bobbing. I don't know why people insist on putting head bobbing into these game, which to me seem unnecessary. Despite that slow movement and head bobbing, this was a fun experience. I like the first segment better than the second. The first have had great visuals. Dark enough to give off that creepy vibe, but clear enough to see without needing a flashlight. The second half was good, though removing sprint, crouch and jump after using them in the first half was an odd choice. No, you don't need them, but it still felt weird to have the, and then not have them. The story was, I think, pretty straightforward and we are given glimpses of it through notes throughout the game. By the end you've got a good idea of what happened. I found it to be interesting, if a bit weird. All in all, a fun little horror walking simulator.

From The Past by JustTomcuk is a compact psychological horror experience that relies almost entirely on atmosphere and subtle storytelling rather than traditional gameplay systems. It presents itself as a first-person exploration game, placing players in a quiet but increasingly unsettling situation that unfolds gradually. What begins as a simple drive through a forest quickly turns into something far more ambiguous, as small irregularities begin to disrupt the sense of normalcy. The game does not rush to explain itself, instead allowing tension to build through pacing and environmental cues. The gameplay is intentionally minimal, focusing on movement and observation rather than interaction. Players explore a series of connected environments, paying attention to visual details and listening closely to changes in sound. There are no complex puzzles, no combat, and very little in the way of direct guidance. This design keeps the experience accessible, but it also means that engagement depends almost entirely on how well the atmosphere holds the player’s attention. For those who enjoy slow, deliberate horror, this approach can be effective, as it allows tension to develop naturally. …

just didn't do it for me, a lot of walking with no real goal, just find things to click on then walk some more...not for me...

An unfortunately super boring, dark, and tedious walking sim. You progress through levels by finding keys and unlocking doors on the opposite side of the building, but for some reason, you can only run while outside. This restriction makes the gameplay feel insanely slow and frustrating.
