✦ AI summary

Galactic Outlaws is a horizontally-scrolling shooter with a solid variety of 20 ships, weapon combinations, and upgrade systems that encourage replayability and experimentation. Players praise its fluid gameplay, good visual effects, and the progression systems that persist across deaths, though some find it relies too heavily on grinding and lack meaningful skill-based challenge. The main frustration is that ship stats are hidden until purchase, potentially wasting currency, though missions earn money quickly enough that it's more of an inconvenience than a serious problem.

The game offers an impressive selection of 20 ships, each with different health, speed, and main weapon damage stats, along with three possible special weapons. However, you can only equip one special weapon during a mission. The biggest problem is that you have no way of comparing a newly purchased ship with your current one because its stats remain hidden until after you buy it. That means you could easily spend your hard earned money on something that ends up being worse than what you already have. Fortunately, earning enough money for a new ship usually takes only a mission or two, so it is more of an inconvenience than a major setback. Still, I honestly found little reason to switch from the default ship. It is more than capable of carrying you through the entire game. On top of that, changing ships means starting the leveling process all over again, which feels like a waste of time when there is no way of knowing whether the new ship will actually be an upgrade. If you really want to experiment, it is probably best to wait until the later sectors when money becomes plentiful and you can simply buy levels instead of grinding them. Apart from the starter ship, every vesse…

Galactic Outlaws is a neat little horizontal shooter with key Euroshmup features I look for in these sorts of games. Think less of the danmaku-type shooter and more like Jets 'N' Guns or Interpose. It's got ships that can take multiple hits before being destroyed, health pickups, twenty different playable ships each with three subweapon options, and an XP and level system, none of which are lost on death. Upgrade options include your max health, health regen and movement speed, as well as projectile count, damage and fire rate for your main gun and subweapon. You also recieve currency that can be used to purchase perks, up to three can be equipped at a time, can increase the aforementioned stats as well as give more XP, more money, or give you a gun-equipped drone buddy, and more. The premise is simple but fun- humanity and its allies are waging a massive interstellar conflict against a hostile force. Seeking an edge, the fleets have called upon fringe elements to conduct daring lightning strikes against key enemy targets that the soldiers can't handle: mercenaries, pirates, smugglers, the works. As one of these Galactic Outlaws, you'll shoot your way through five different reg…

I would indeed prescribe this sweet little side scroller to other gamers!!!,... You get a good amount of *BANG!* FOR YOUR BUCK, replayable feelings as you have so many other ships/crafts to unlock. I think the only issue that bothers me is that when you use a new craft/ship, or even current ship!!, it does not remember or scroll forward onto the next level naturally,... and as there are zero names to each level you can get lost as to what level you played on as it always puts you back to LvL 1.

Recomendadisimo!

Fun addictive game for casual/short gaming seasons. Lots of ships with different stats/secondary weapons and perk combinations you can make to compete for the top scores. And runs perfectly on Deck even it the support isn't mentioned in its Steam page.
Only if you REALLY like grinding
Because grinding is all that the game has to offer. Just a long grind, until you hit a wall and can't increase your XP fast enough anymore, then you have the option of playing in the difficult mode or grinding more to just buy levelups with in-game currency. Even though the game looks like a shmup, there is very little skill involved, it plays like a survivor-like, with even less options than in a survivor. Of course you can enjoy upgrading some of the ships weapons and see how they look at max power, the graphics and effects are rather cool and good quality. But it's a short lived fun, and some of the weapons act very similar. I only put a thumb up because I got the game for free, otherwise it would be a thumb down
(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
