About Day of the Shell

Day of the Shell is a fast-paced tactical roguelite, where each turn is played in a single click. The gods have brought down their wrath on humanity, and only a few remote islands remain. A lonely monster huntress has risen to challenge and appease the gods, traveling through what's left of the world.

FEATURES

  • One Click, One Turn: Tactical choices are made with a single click, making gameplay simple and dynamic while maintaining strategic depth.
  • Explore the Islands: Survive against monsters and collect treasures on each island to open its portal. Will you be able to reach the heart of the Islands and destroy the Shell?
  • Shape Your Destiny: Combine the powers of the many Warden's blessings to fight your enemies. Different variations and combinations will allow you to create a unique playstyle for each game.
  • Death is Part of the Adventure: With each death, you return to your home island, where you can permanently upgrade or consider your strategy for the next day.

Its fun for the first hour but it soon drops off. The big issue is you have only two abilities, move and shoot. You have no other weapons or abilities to use other than your gun. The next issue. Unlike most games like this where you have a move and action each turn. You instead get 3 actions to either move or shoot before an enemy attacks. Sounds great until you find out that the enemies aren't synced up with each other. So quite often when you get flanked by several enemies instead of having 3 turns before you get attacked, you get attacked every turn. So you just spend your entire time running away so you don't get hit. Next issue, enemies overpower you quickly. Your gun's base damage is 3. On the first world the enemies hp range from 5 to 12. In the second world they are 20+ hp. The upgrades you get throughout your adventure don't have a flat damage increase. They are all conditional like +5 damage if you are standing in mud, +3 damage if you moved your entire movement, +2 if the enemy is injured. The permanent upgrades aren't impactful. A one time +5% crit rate, 5% shop discount, 10% gold drop rate. Each run is less "lets make a build around these abilities we find" an…

No build variety, only thing that works is long range. Very unbalanced, the only way to play is doing the same thing over and over again. So many weapons, and a few different upgrades, but only a couple actually are usefull.

The core is really solid and the game is fun enough to play to make me interested in getting all the achievements. That being said, it's also painfully buggy, the story might as well not exist for how little it has to offer and how it utterly fails at tying itself with gameplay, and that solid gameplay core is buried in unrealized potential - for instance weapon upgrades, instead of making each one more distinct in its gameplay, all just increase the damage; and the apparent wealth of different upgrades you can pick per run ends up being quite shallow, because there are maybe three build directions you always want to go for regardless of your weapon, that are an order of magnitude stronger than anything else. And I'm not going to tell you how to make your games, but I'd think that fixing gamebreaking bugs should have priority over implementing cosmetics and turtle petting.

was first met with a bug of loading in to a starting area and not being able to move after a while and pressing everything turned out i needed to delete save data that was preloaded with the game. Lack of weapons unable to move after each run. there is walls that npc's can shoot through but you cannot. over all this game should of stayed in testing

game looks pretty, but gameplay is grindy, repetitive, with no real way to progress if you can't reliably defeat bosses. heavily dependent on the lightning powerups that let you damage enemies as you avoid them, if not you're spending a lot of time running away from those pecking things.
