Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 216: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10) This one surprised me. [h1]007, IS THAT YOU?[/h1] Usually, I’m not the kind of person who reads stories about spies or secret agents, but this game caught my attention. I went in with low expectations, yet 180 Files: The Aegis Project turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable piece of Interactive Fiction. It's not some hidden masterpiece - mainly because it’s simply too short to leave a lasting impact - but [b]if you’re looking for a fun read before bed, it’s definitely worth checking out.[/b] [b]Story[/b] The story is pretty straightforward - you're a secret agent on a mission to find out who killed a scientist. As usual, things end up being more complicated than expected, and you get drawn into something much bigger. Like I said at the beginning, The Aegis Project isn't some hidden gem, but it does enough things well to be genuinely fun to read. On top of the very competent writing, it has everything you'd expect from good interactive fiction: you can customize your character, shape your backstory, the romance options are well integrated into the story, and there's a satisfying number of choices (although most of them aren't particularly impactful). There are parts to this that I like. But it's just not enough. There's no depth to the story. I can't tell what's going to happen depending on which option I click, because the result doesn't match up well. And there's literally NO WAY to tell what any of these characters want from you. I really wanted to like this. But it was okay at best.

It is okay, pretty good for what it is. It is competently written and well edited. The woke isn't completely unhinged. It seems to have some replay value. At three hours for a complete play through, catch this on sale. There is one nit that I would pick, one that drove me to distraction. Out of the blue you are expected to remember and type in your character's cover name for the main mission. It is Daniels, by the way. The first name doesn't seem necessary.
