✦ AI summary

The Year is...

30XX combines the crisp controls and fluid movement you love from action platformers like Mega Man X, the replayability of a modern Roguelike (Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells, etc) and co-op play into a single gorgeous package.

Awaken a thousand years after 20XX to realize the world that needed you is gone, changed irreversibly by the advent of the Synthetic Mind and a human race that's lost the will to reach for the stars. Explore the lush, verdant prison our world has become, and fight to save what remains.

Rise. Fight. Fall. Adapt. There's a sublime meaning in this endless cycle, somewhere, buried deep.

After finishing the core gamemode, my opinion of this game changed quite a bit. I went from a position of "This is a fun game but a bad roguelike" to "This is just kind of a bad game." Let me start with the way the game handles its three characters (four with DLC). You have a choice between Nina (a copyright-friendly Megaman X ripoff who plays like the SNES games) and Ace (a copyright-friendly Zero who plays more like the Megaman Zero games). The developer added a hybrid gun/melee character that has to use one style to charge the other and who generally kinda sucks, and a paid DLC character who is apparently overpowered but who I didn't like much. The problem is that the game was pretty clearly balanced around playing Nina and not Ace - bosses have giant screenspam projectiles that require constant dodging, and this means playing Ace is suffering because he has to be in melee range to do damage, which means that bossfights as him consist of dodging forever to land a single hit before going back to dodging forever. The item pool also REALLY sucks. Each character has one viable item synergy and then a bunch of item bloat that ranges from bad to outright detrimental: Nina has an "u…

This game is a poster child for the "yes more poison" brain rot modern gaming has infecting the zoomers with. No randomized timewasting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is not a good game. It's increadible to me that a game like megaman x5 and x6, both games I loved to death as a kid, get raked over the coals viciously for their borderline rude player hating design formulas. Yet the vote of confidence stuff like this gets because of its (frankly increadible) visual and sound design when the developers built and exposed an entire level creator for the fans, only to abandon it basically entirely in a state that demands you put up with its randomized nonsensical kaizo levels of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to enjoy it. The average Experiance I had by the way, was winning all the way to the end of the very first run I made (not counting suiciding in a few community levels), only to die a gorillian times trying to understand what exactly you are supposed to do to advance further than this point. which seems to basically be, play hundreds of runs and hope that the bit flip ♥♥♥♥ happens on one of them. Imagine if you will a player who played megaman X, while only 1 out of 100 runs would even see them find a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ armor part le…

Really fun game. It reminds me a lot of Mega Man X for SNES. The rogue mechanics make this agame quite addictive.
