Action Commando, developed by BlueEagle Productions and published by Paul Schneider, is a compact yet energetic indie action game that embraces unapologetic excess, fast pacing, and old-school shooter sensibilities. It presents itself as a top-down action experience rooted in constant movement, aggressive combat, and a deliberately absurd sci-fi premise. Rather than aiming for realism or deep narrative complexity, the game focuses on delivering a straightforward power fantasy where momentum, reflexes, and weapon mastery take center stage. From the opening moments, it makes its intentions clear: this is a game about mowing through enemies with style and speed. The premise is intentionally overblown and playful. You step into the role of a time-travelling Spartan warrior tasked with stopping a bizarre cult bent on destruction across different eras. The story functions largely as flavor rather than a driving force, leaning into pulpy science fiction and dark humor rather than emotional depth. This tongue-in-cheek tone helps frame the violence and chaos in a way that feels self-aware, ensuring the game never takes itself too seriously. Dialogue and narrative elements exist mainly to c…3 found this helpful
You're a time travelling Spartan soldier and it's your job to stop the Cult of the Fallen Gods. In other words, shoot anything that moves :D Weapons are varied and include, shotguns, railguns, and a powerful melee weapon to name just three. The weapons handle well and have great sounds to them, they also have an alternate fire mode and can be upgraded with scrap, which can be found as you progress. Levels are nicely laid out with key cards required to unlock certain areas. You will meet companions on the way which will fight by your side if you want them too. Armour, ammunition and food are located in various spots throughout the level. A fun little game :)2 found this helpful
It's a fun twin stick shooter and I'm thinking of picking up the sequel but I really wish more save stations were scattered throughout the game. It's a slog having to repeat sections over and over again. Otherwise, I had a good time with AC.
This is a lot of fun. It has all of the elements from Town of Machine that I loved, and the stuff I didn't like taken out. Not to say there's anything wrong with a bit of adventure and storytelling that came with ToM but a game like Action Commando is more to my tastes: the running around, mild exploration, fights, cool weapons with strategically useful ALT fire modes. I really like the companion system. They are kinda dumb but also not. They make excellent diversions for enemies and act as shields. They are not invulnerable, so they're more like an "assist" to tip the scales of battle in your favor, but you can't use them to take everything out while you sit back (well, at least on difficulty 4/5 which is where I'm playing from). Some reviews have grieved the companions and their behavior, but I think they're great little "pets" that pop back to life when the coast is clear, if they were concussed during a fight. Maps are tight and they seem to be built with interlocking door system where they open up, and let you quickly route yourself back to "camp" once you've cleared a sub-area of the map. Since each "level" kind of acts as it's own mini-hub area, getting around is super fas…
ok lets see since i done used up 8 hrs out of my life, i would say im feeling it...The graphics are ok, game reminds me of Gauntlet...The achievements are pretty easy to get for those trophy hunting...The weapons in the game are pretty cool....the thing is really important you wanna save constantly because if you die you gonna have to go re find everything u had before you died....I can say that's one thing i didnt like so whenever possible save save save, i played a hr of playtime to find out when i died it put me at my last save spot and lost a whole hr of work.....Don't end up like me having a crazy pissed off look on your face when u gotta do everything over....you all been warned.....
This is surprisingly fun. Don't let the visuals put you off; they get the job done, & the game-play is solid. A moderately challenging twin-stick shooter with RPG elements & attractive female characters.
