Age of Gods is a perfect game for those who enjoy strategy and continuously improving themselves and their tactics. There is no luck in this game, so you know that when you win or lose it is entirely dependent on your skill level. It's like a more sophisticated version of chess except with way more types of pieces and the tiles on the board have different effects. And there are solo modes if you want to play single player too. The community is close and growing, with plenty of guides and tips to help you improve. The dev is super active and engages with the community often, quickly hearing and responding to feedback. At the time of writing this review the game is still in an early phase and I can see from the community Discord server that there are a lot more great updates coming in the near future!1 found this helpful
I was a huge fan of Armies of Gielinor back in the day. I'm honestly stoked someone did a remake. I know a lot of people have their critiques, but I'm having a lot of fun with this. The nostalgia hit is real. It also is in pretty rough shape, but I think I am coming in at a time when a lot of the really major game-breaking bugs people were complaining about have been fixed. It's also not required that you pay for the campaigns. You get some kind of currency and can use that to unlock them, so it's not just P2W (which the original AoG was back in the day on FunOrb).
Overall, this game has solid depth. Don't be scared off by the microtransactions, those exist solely as optional ways to support the developer and skip through content. There is good depth between unit interactions, good variation between matches, and a lot of difficult campaign levels to explore with the base-game.
Insanely ugly and visually confusing, unit cards lack basic information about their abilities, Campaigns, units, ect, are all locked behind a pay wall. This is a cheap, unimaginitive cash grab relying entirely on your nostalgia and desire to replay Armies of Gielinor
Literally unplayable. Won't let you move your character, just bounces around the AI players. Have tried multiple game settings and campaign mode. Also, waited for about 10 minutes to join a causal game on any map and couldn't find a game. So disappointed after following the discord chat for ages.
