About Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
From the moment Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac set foot on Shadow Island, they are confronted by mysterious, evil creatures intent on thwarting their progress to recover 3 ancient tablets believed to hold the secret key to some incredible menacing phenomena. Danger threatens from every corner. The slightest shadow could be hiding deep secrets, or concealing worse nightmares... Can you see beyond your fear?
Edward Carnby, the supernatural detective is back! And this time it's for revenge. Carnby's best friend, Charles Fiske has been found dead off a mysterious island off the coast of Maine, Shadow Island. Carnby's investigation quickly leads him to Fred Johnson who informs him of Fiske's search for the three ancient tablets which, when placed in a specific location, will unlock an incredible and dangerous power. Johnson pleads with Carnby to pick up where Fiske left off and reopen the investigation in order to recover the tablets. Carnby accepts the mission to find and destroy the murderer of Fiske and avenge his death.
The original survival horror franchise continues with a pure blend of intense action and suspenseful adventure. Alone in the Dark immerses the player into a dark and strange atmosphere where conventional rules do not apply. The player must overcome his natural fear of the dark unknown and control Edward Carnby through a deep and highly detailed storyline. Armed with a flashlight and a pistol, Carnby must find the necessary items to survive as well as the clues which will help him escape his ultimate nightmare.

First playthrough review time. Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is a third-person survival horror game with fixed camera angles and tank-style controls. You move through different areas, solve puzzles, and deal with enemies while managing limited resources. The game has two playable characters, each with a different path through the game. One focuses more on combat, while the other focuses more on puzzles and progression. This gives some variety in how the game plays. Items can be easy to miss, enemies can return when going back to earlier areas, and item placement is not always consistent. There are also small glitches and moments where interacting with objects does not always work properly. Overall, the game keeps the basic survival horror style with exploration, puzzles, and resource management. Despite reviews, the game is WAY more unstable than the 2008 game. Do not buy unless you know a solid fix for all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problems.4 found this helpful
I have played this on a PlayStation 1 Console and at the time it scared the living hell out of me and still to this day its the most scariest games I have ever played. In my opinion its a pretty solid horror. Definitely would put it in one of the classics. What I like, you can play as two characters both of them have different stories to tell but initially ending is the same.2 found this helpful
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare was an awesome experience from start to finish. If your a fan of the classic Resident Evil games , you'll definitely love this. The game has that same tense, creepy atmosphere where your constantly on edge, solving puzzle's, and trying to survive 9/10.1 found this helpful

I first played Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare on the original PlayStation, but never actually finished it. After all these years, I finally decided to complete it on PC... and, unfortunately, it wasn't the experience I remembered. The game certainly has a strong atmosphere. The lighting effects were impressive for their time, and the mansion does a decent job of creating tension during the opening hours. There are glimpses of what could have been a great survival horror game. Unfortunately, that's where most of my praise ends. The biggest issue is the pacing. The game quickly becomes a tedious cycle of backtracking, obscure puzzles, and searching for tiny items that are easy to miss. Instead of building suspense, it often feels like it's wasting your time. Combat isn't particularly enjoyable either. Enemies are more annoying than threatening, ammunition management can feel frustrating rather than strategic, and the controls never become comfortable. The story also struggles to stay engaging. It starts with an intriguing mystery but gradually loses momentum, and by the end, I wasn't nearly as invested as I expected to be. I can appreciate what the developers were trying t…
