Ammo Pigs: Armed and Delicious

The controls are extremely simple, sticking to the basics of movement, jumping, and firing. True to the run-and-gun tradition, you can simply hold down the fire button to keep a steady stream of bullets going while moving forward, without the need to tap repeatedly. There’s no ammo to worry about. The game is structured around four distinct zones, each divided into several smaller stages. Individual stages are relatively small and filled with enemies, hazards, and platforms. What makes them more engaging is the non-linear design. Instead of simply moving from one side to the other, you’ll need to track down switches that drop forcefields blocking your progress. Enemies are relatively easy to handle, especially at the start. Early enemy types only pace back and forth and don’t shoot projectiles, making them little more than moving targets. Later foes do introduce ranged attacks and pose a bigger challenge, but their patterns are simple enough that dodging isn’t difficult. Most enemies go down in just a few hits, and defeating them, or smashing destructible objects, rewards you with coins. Coins are the game’s currency and can be used in a store conveniently located in every stage…

EDIT: Ok, so there are some game breaking bugs after all, but honestly, I don't care. I've spent some more time with it, and the game breaking bugs are few and far between and the game is still fun even if you do have to restart a lvl now and again. I stand by the rest of this review. No, I didn't play for very long, I didn't have to. The game is decent enough. I got it on sale for 50 cents, but if I paid the full regular retail price of $3, I'd have been ok with that. It's got a few different modes, the graphics are solid for what they are. I mean, it's nothing amazing, but it's not claiming to be or even trying to be. The music is definitely from the more "farty" end of the 8bit era, but here it works and it's actually kind of catchy. There are some bugs here and there, but nothing game braking from what I've seen. There are a few things I'd have liked to have seen done differently. Like to the way you use ladders (you jump up them, and there is no going down them, you just fall off the edge to go down) and the elevators do not respond to your command, they are automatic. I like the idea and concept here, this is a fun platformer and I wouldn't have given it a negative review if it werent for the fact that rogue and insane rogue both do not work due to a bug that says "no pigs saved" after saving all the pigs and bringing them to the end. This is kinda a big deal as 2 modes are essentially "play the first level over and over again" I hope this problem gets resolved soon as I wanted to 100% this game but if 8 achievements are impossible that is kinda messed up. I am happy to change my review if this issue gets resolved, cause overall it is a solid platform shooter that is good for chilling in the background while talking with friends on discord.

Picked this up for $1.49 at one point and finally got around to it. And: This game should not be this fun! I am really impressed. The game is kept very simple. You see something...you shoot it. And try to rescue all the piglets in the level. That is pretty much it. It is the kind of game you will know within 5 mins if you are going to enjoy or not. I only have 3 issues with the game: 1. The weapons: You can't cycle through what you buy. So you could spend a lot of your gold coins on getting a gun that really doesn't do much more than your main gun, given the enemies and level lay out. But shots to those weapons are limited...so they will become a waste. 2. Cheap deaths for the piglets. One level in particular, I had all three and one more left enemy on screen below me. I chose to jump to the platform above him to flip a switch. My piglets followed and failed the jump...and were all killed. It seems like the best tactic is to leave them in a cage...clear out all the enemies, and then go back to get them. 3. Why didn't Steam get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and Loaded??? But if you enjoy retro shooters..then this might...be worth your bacon. (insert drum sting here)

its ok fun to play

I don't think its to bad of a game however there is a few issues. The game does have bugs where your character may get stuck in walls or fall and get stuck. I find it completely useless to collect all the pigs unless it does something for the end of the game which I haven't yet. However collecting them doesn't do anything for achievements only beating the level does and that means you don't need to collect all of them. I only played casual and found that saw blade character the most difficult of the levels I've played so far. Completing this game on every difficulty is great for achievements however will get pretty repetitive after awhile just playing casual. It ain't bad it could need more work to make it better. Right now i'm going to say I wouldn't recommend the game.
