"Anachronism\>" is a basic text adventure/interactive novel trying to look like a retro "BBS" experience but comes across as completely inauthentic. Like the developer wants you to think you "install" a BBS. Tell us you have no idea what a BBS is without actually saying it. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. I know in this case it's deliberate, but they could have done better. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $1 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 mil…

The nostalgia for the mechanisms of the game is real especially since it's a nostalgia wrought from my own youthful experiences i.e. I'm old and should love something that hits my memory bone so succinctly. And I do love the interface and the concept of the game in theory. But I cannot bring myself to finish this game. The agonizing time it takes to "type" has felled me. I'm done. I think I was heading down the good ending or whatever semblance of "good" was intended here. I do like the love story in theory but too much of it took place in some offline world that I'm not invited to so why should I be invested in it? Everything interesting seemed to be happening in a world I wasn't actively involved in including the dialogue. I can see that this came from a place of love. I think letting the player become more involved with your characters and giving them some semblance of choice beyond what kind of cereal they like would go a long way towards engaging folks. I wanted to love this and recognize it's a free game currently so I tried to be generous here but I found the experience shallow and the actual "gameplay" agonizingly slow.
