glad we are in the era of "people who grew up playing Digimon World making their own." tons of visual detail references that make me smile. also the game is good and exp share is on for everyone so you can actually level your tama in a reasonable way.

Overall, I have mixed feelings (leaning positive) about it. The game has a lot of potentials gameplay-wise but because some basic mechanics end up holding it back not allowing it to shine as much as it could. The graphic is cute and music is good. I really enjoy the lore and the story, and I’m excited to play the sequel, assuming I’ll get to learn more about the world! So, even if the gameplay falls short at times, the story somewhat makes up for it. The tama designs are pretty fun generally. But here are some pros and cons of the gameplay. This game has a pretty interesting combat system. Even if the fights are 1-vs-1 at a time, the TP system allows you to pull off combo moves with a different tama on your main team because swapping tama cost only a certain amount of TP depending on their difference in speed. But while I can see some promising team combo, there are not so many of those. And the lack of online resources (e.g. guide, etc.) doesn’t help when you want to customize your tama team either (not necessarily the fault of the dev). The progression of the game starts to open up after the first 6 hours of the game where you have options to explore different biomes. The probl…

The game has a bunch of flaws, which is a bad sign considering I only played for about 3 hours. Biggest one is probably how poorly information is presented. Most systems aren't explained fully, and you have to hunt for a NPC to get what little explanation there is. In combat, the log goes by super fast and cannot be scrolled from the main screen, so you have to go to the info screen (where the log is also present and CAN be scrolled through) if you want to know what the hell happened. Status effects aren't explained anywhere except in combat, on the info screen, when looking at the info of a monster currently suffering from it. Otherwise, good luck. Types aren't easy to discern at a glance since the colors aren't distinct enough (water is blue, ice is blue, wind is blue... I suppose if I put these blues in a color picker I would find they are technically different shades, but that doesn't exactly help). I just unlocked breeding, and the in-game information I found pretty much amounts to "you need two level 10+ compatible tamas. IDK what compatible means though so good luck lol". Really fun and looks great. This game as a series has a lot of potential.

I have been searching for a more evolved (ha) version of Pokemon, and this comes pretty close to what I was envisioning! The story is quite immersive, the characters are charming, the monster designs are nicely done, there is an abundance of quests to do. However, this one isn't really for more casual gamers, like myself, as it doesn't really do an adequate job of explaining the breeding system or making it intuitive or interesting to figure out. I do want to finish this game some time, but without utilizing the breeding system, monsters you train cannot become strong enough to advance the story near the end. It's unfortunate as the game is quite fun otherwise. I would still recommend this game though, just with caveats.
