Aquanox Deep Descent

Waited for a discount to try it out, finished the story out of spite at the end. Story is amazingly bad, all the subs feel extremely slow and unresponsive, weapons range from boring to repetitive, and the crafting system is completely useless and unnecesary. I just want to play Aquanox 1 and 2 now, hell I would even play all the escort missions from both those games before playing this hot garbage again. 1/10 don't buy it.

The slowest vehicle combat game I've ever played with trash tier voice acting to boot. Got this on sale and still refunded this crap.

This game is tragic, if it were not a game set before Archimedean Dynasty in the Aqua setting it would probably not get a redthumb review from me. If one were to imagine the game almost completely unaltered except with direct references to the old Aqua setting changed to legally distinct ones, it would be an alright 6dof shooter game one would not be too upset about buying on sale. To get the parts that I didn't hate out of the way: -The basic mechanics of combat are Alright, even if they're let down by encounter design and the whole repair kit/shield battery system -The high amount of caves did at least provide some tactical situations where you don't use breaker or shard -No complaints about the graphics -I played through and finished this game. Despite loving AD and playing through it dozens of times over the last 30 years I have never been able to stomach a playthrough of Aquanox. This is not high praise, but sufficient enjoyment was achieved to get me to the end and annoy me enough to leave this review. I really liked Aquanox 2 way back when and this scratched that itch pretty well. Definitely had fun with it, if you have fond memories of Aquanox 2 then I'd recommend it!

No wonder I haven't heard of this game. It's bad even though I manage to finish it. Story is whatever and didn't even got a closure to the characters. The movement of your ship is so slow even if you use the fastest one, imagine the slowest. It really deters me exploring much the ocean and it being murky everywhere just makes it worse. Enemies can just suddenly materialize near you to ambush, which is very cheap. There is one enemy type that is really annoying, that little ship shape like a head it so small can hit you in range and every tanky, it appears late game even together with the final boss. Also tip on that race....well use the fastest ship which is the default and use the current which is hard to see but there are bubbles in it. This game deserve its obscurity.

I thought the story in this game was OK. It's tolerable. The gameplay was acceptable but often sluggish at times. The weapons you can unlock were fairly creative but you don't really get a chance to use them at the best times and you can run out of ammo in some of the more intense battles. My biggest complaint with this game is how it tends to glitch during moments in a fight where certain event triggers are supposed to happen and they don't for some reason. I had to exit the game completely and restart to progress the chapter I was in. It was very annoying to have to keep doing this repeatedly. The graphics were probably above average for its day. I wish they had the budget to flesh out the other NPCs in the story instead of simply showing images and playing voice audio. My final rating for this game is a 5 out of 10. I bought it on sale for dirt cheap but it could have been way better if the designers had more money.
