Asteroids 44 is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Asteroids (Copyright Atari, 1979). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Atari against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. Absolutely this game breaches both Atari's copyrights and trademarks for the Asteroids game, and in some states and parts of the world this flagrant violation of international copyright law is a criminal offense. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. This is much, much worse than Atari's classic Asteroids game. This features really godawful low poly "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating contemporary 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to …

Asteroids 44 is a decent Asteroids clone with some major caveats: The turning speed is way too slow. The cutscene between levels takes almost 20 seconds and slows the game down unnecessarily. Achievements don't work. I enjoyed how chaotic the levels got in a very short amount of time and the power ups are a nice addition. Because this is free, I will barely recommend it.
