About Astra Protocol 2
Astra Protocol 2 is a cassette futurism inspired space adventure where you must command a powerful space-faring craft on a search and rescue mission to uncover the mystery of the Astra Protocol.
Using text commands and a 1980s themed interface alongside an operations manual, players must control their space ship to navigate different celestial bodies and asteroids whilst avoiding hostile space craft to find any evidence of survivors.
PILOT the spaceship through use of the HELM module, setting engine and rudder levels, or harnessing the power of the intelligent bearing settings.
MONITOR the status of the spaceship through the ENGINEERING module and its highly detailed readouts.
SCAN planets and spacecraft, SEARCH for hostiles, DETECT distress beacons, and PROBE bodies of interest using the SCIENCE module and its multiple instruments.
DEFEND yourself using the ORDNANCE module, via homing torpedoes, mines, multi-functional lasers, and tweakable shields.
NAVIGATE through the hostile sectors of space using the NAVIGATION module, and its semi-intelligent autopilot and pathfinding systems.
You will need to utilise all of these modules to your advantage to have any hope of unravelling the meaning of the Astra Protocol.

Even under €1.50 this game is not really worth it. And it's a shame. I really like obscure, obtuse games where you have to figure things out while flying by the seat of your pants, but this game fails to provide a satisfying game loop. The minute to minute gameplay consists of typing commands, but having to constantly type out every. single. tiny. little. command becomes very tiresome very quick. Set rudder. Set opposite rudder. Stop rudder. Set engines. Stop engines. Set negative engines. Stop engines again. You can use an autopilot, which is incredibly inefficient and will go full blast on the tiniest maneuver, creating reactor heat buildup that you will need to combat by manually injecting coolant, all while bouncing between screens. The parser based gameplay means you'll sometimes make a typo and you'll have to scramble to retype it under pressure which... I guess it adds to the tension? To me it just becomes repetitive and annoying. This is the type of game that you usually have a separate manual for with a PDF like the Zachtronics games do, but as far as I can tell there isn't one, so you will keep opening the "help" menu over and over and over and over again to reference t…8 found this helpful
Absolutely terrible. The only title that get's worse following an update. They've now gone for an old Cathode Ray glass monitor look with it's curved screen appearance. This however doesn't fit within the boundaries of your monitor, so a portion of the screen is missing. Also now for some reason to type a character I have pause for a second or two to wait for the game to catch up, this on a game that is text based for the most part, a game that often starts with only seconds to react because an asteroid is fast looming upon your craft or you are taking radiation damage. Not withstanding the extensive manual just to do anything with this game, the lack of any guidance - the premise being the 'fun' is supposedly figuring it all out. I liken this to some plain of Hell where you are placed in some situation where you are doomed to die that keeps repeating itself eternally. A shame because the general idea behind the game seemed unique nowadays ( though much older titles did similar back in the days when you'd buy a named home computer such as a commodore ) this one just misses the mark in too many ways. I gave it a shot, but cannot recommend it to others sadly.2 found this helpful
Please don't stop the development of this game. It is a very unique game. I could imagine the game with even more events and features. Maybe one day a multiplayer option if it is even possible *** update 2026 It is amazing to see how the Devs keep working on this little gem 💎. The idea of the version of the multiplayer they are working on is even better than what I imagined. I can't wait to try it out (it is difficult at the moment because as I understand it is only local). The visual upgrades are also welcomed. The game has a steep learning curve but today I have managed to successfully dock to a space station and that was soo satisfieing. I hope they will kepp working on the development. Some sort of simplified version of duskers implementation or a get the survivals rescued or some other activities would be welcomed additition as well at one point. This game is not for everyone for sure because our attention span is very limited these days but if you have the patience to learn the manual then it is definitely worth it. ( One additional request towards the devs would be to fix the auto complete funcion because it doesn't always work) ** Additional info : This game "stays in c…2 found this helpful

Very unique and interesting game. I have a bit above-average system and didn't have any performance issues whatsoever. It takes time to get used to utilizing the texting system quickly, but it is fun nevertheless.1 found this helpful
Astra Protocol 2 is an uncompromisingly niche space simulation that doubles down on its retro-futuristic identity, offering an experience that feels closer to operating a spacecraft through a technical manual than playing a conventional video game. Developed and published by Slice Bar Games, it deliberately rejects modern design conveniences in favor of an austere, text-driven interface inspired by classic science-fiction depictions of space travel. From the very beginning, it makes clear that this is a game about systems, procedure, and understanding, rather than spectacle or accessibility. The premise places you in the role of a reconnaissance pilot responding to a mysterious and dangerous signal known as the Astra Protocol. What initially sounds like a straightforward search-and-rescue mission quickly becomes a tense exercise in survival, navigation, and interpretation of incomplete data. The narrative is understated and largely conveyed through mission context, logs, and the situations you encounter rather than overt storytelling. This restrained approach fits the game’s tone, allowing the sense of isolation and uncertainty to emerge naturally as you venture deeper into hostil…1 found this helpful
