Auto Cell: Game of Life is essentially a downloadable version of (John Horton) Conway's Game of Life. As I am already vastly familiar with the concept, I felt that I could confidently review this experience with only a quarter of an hour of playtime (on this version, I've played many hours of browser versions of nearly identical software). You might be asking yourself, "What's that?" So glad that you asked: Conway's Game of Life is a zero-player game determined by its initial state, which can be set randomly, by the player, through preloaded files that come with the game, or through other third-party sources. After setting the initial state, one starts the simulation and observes these pixel-wide digital stand-ins for biology live, die, multiply, and (if all goes well) evolve on the square grid that comprises their plane of existence. Auto Cell provides a straightforward and accessible way to experience this concept without having to hunt down a browser-based implementation or configure anything yourself (God forbid we have to do any actual programming!).
