Alright. Back to Home is a game I played right around its release and curated it back then, but I didn't actually write a full review until now. Mostly because, much like another reviewer who posted a review today, I was chewing on just how critical I should be when dealing with a game made by an alleged child developer. But, given the experience while playing this shared by a mutual friend of the aforementioned other reviewer and myself, I thought it time to remedy my not having reviewed it. Plus, I also do want to talk about how misleading it is to claim the game was made by a 14 year old developer anyway. My experience with the game was that while cute and all, it had no sort of quality control, be it early access or simply being playtested by more than a couple people. And that shows almost immediately, and regularly. For one, if you explore, which the game kind of encourages you to do, it is possible to go out of bounds, so to speak. When you do so, it disables the normal controls and you basically just slowly float around. You can move the cat, but for some reason, the controls all invert during those moments, and of course, as mentioned, all you can do is slowly floa…

💜This game was gifted to Catizens Curations for review. I really wanted to give this game a recommended review, but sadly, I had so many issues with it that I just can't. I'll start with the positive though, as my experience with the game wasn't all bad. Back To Home is your average walking simulator type of game, with some platforming mixed in there. The graphics were decent, but the cat looked a little sick (especially when looking from the front lol). The soundtrack was lovely and It was easy to complete, in theory. Truth however, was that I was more often than not, stuck in some hole that was left by the developer who had put down the 3D assets of the terrain. There were many such holes that I accidentally dropped myself in, and I was unable to continue without closing the game and restarting the chapter/level. There was also one part of the game where I was able to just jump over most of the "puzzles" and skip them entirely, and getting forward to the next chapter. I feel like with a lot of hardwork and polish, this game could be a lovely little hidden gem, but to me, it currently isn't it…

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be that person now. I decided not to say anything apart from a discussion post earlier, because I thought this game wouldn't get any attention anyway. Then I saw a Steam friend buy it and was like "oh no". Now that friend is privately warning people about the game. Her main issues were motion sickness and laptop-frying, mine are described in my discussion post. Look, for a teenage boy who's learning how to make games, this is amazing and he should absolutely be proud. And continue learning, get more honest feedback, make more games, and THEN start thinking about publishing on Steam and asking for money. The positive reviews here are not written to inform potential players, but to praise and encourage the kid. And if you want to support him, go ahead. But you should know that you can't expect this to be a standard quality game. * * * If you like chill and story-driven games, check out my curator Peaceful Adventures and Stories. This was a very charming and heartwarming adventure. You and your work inspire me, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing your game. Be sure to continue on your path as a game developer. I loved the atmosphere, the concept, and the level design. Even though some of the levels had fairly open spaces, I could clearly understand the intended route and landmarks. The story seemed abstract to me at first, but it grew on me. The people who helped you with the music did a great job too, and you guys created a great combination. In your future projects, I would recommend paying attention to performance and control responsiveness to make them more fluid. If you have the time, also consider accessibility for different screens and controllers. There were a few issues with the borders on the Steam Deck with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and the console's gamepad behaved oddly — I had to emulate mouse and keyboard controls. I look forward to your future works with great anticipation. Thank you! p.s: found out about the game from a post on reddit, good decision for promotion 👍🏻

If you suffer from motion sickness or other visual computer game issues, this one might get you. The collisions are funky and the camera constantly flashes meshes and objects in and out. it wasn't the worse motion sickness I have suffered even close but its there and it could be a lot worse to someone more sensitive to flashing. I'm going to have to agree with the other negative reviews. This was not ready to be released or should have been free with the developer accepting feedback. Its a decent prototype, its definitely a walking sim and we have a few vistas and some collectables to find and explore. However, what really makes me not recommend this game are two things, the story is nearly incoherent and the collisions and movement logic is awful. Walking sims can always be a bit odd in their storytelling sometimes and in the way the story is communicated isn't unusual(just small white text on screen). Ignoring the various typos, this story can't string two ideas together to form a whole. Things happened but it was like a five year old telling you about something. In between the tidbits of logic there are random noises and words and general confusion. It really needed to be lo…
