About Battlefield Commander WWII

Battlefield Commander WWII is a real-time tactics game that emphasizes strategic decision-making over micromanagement, with a focus on realistic combat and authentic unit behavior.

Years and Theaters

The game contains units from the Soviet Union and Germany spanning the late war period (1944-45). Units from the early war ('39-'41) and mid-war ('42-'43) are planned to be introduced. Other nations, including the US, UK, and Japan, are planned for the future. The European, African, and Pacific theaters of war are all planned to be included.

Game Modes

The game currently has single-player skirmish and a dynamic campaign.
There are two different battle modes to choose from -
  • Battle - Gain victory points by destroying enemy units.
  • Flags - Gain victory by controlling the most strategic areas on the map.

Dynamic Campaign

The dynamic campaign takes place in Eastern Europe, playable as either Germany or the USSR. Each region has a production value that represents how many reinforcement points you get per turn if you control it. Deploy forces out of your capital, or in regions where you have built a factory. Gain victory by eliminating the enemy, capturing their capital, or reducing their morale to 0. Choose to simulate or play the battles. More campaigns will be added when other nations are added to the game!

Gameplay

Experience realistic combat with limited ammo, morale, energy, LOS, and shot accuracy. Infantry can be suppressed, panic, and rout if morale drops too far. Vehicles have accurate armor, movement, and penetration values.

Start each battle with requisition points, which you will use strategically throughout the fight to pull in new reinforcements and counter your enemy. Order your troops to charge head-first into the enemy or sneak and outflank your opponent for an ambush! Overwhelm the enemy with heavy infantry or overrun them with unstoppable armor. Use snipers and recon units to scout the enemy and discover their intentions. Control units like the quick and agile "Puma," the terror-inducing "Katyusha," the iconic T-34, and the monster Tiger II. Command the battlefield and lead your army to victory!

  • Multiple weather options
  • Line-of-sight tool
  • Over 90 different units
  • Realistic vehicle armor and penetration

Battlefield Commander: World War II has a surprisingly strong foundation, blending elements reminiscent of Hearts of Iron IV and more casual mobile WWII strategy titles, but with a real-time tactics layer that gives it real potential. At its core, the game feels like it could evolve into something genuinely compelling—but right now, it’s held back by several major gameplay issues. The biggest problem lies in the combat system. Unit interactions often feel unbalanced or unfinished. Tanks, for example, struggle to effectively deal with infantry—even when those infantry are caught in the open—largely due to underwhelming machine gun performance. On the flip side, mortars are extremely powerful to the point of dominating matches. Because of the shared spotting system, a single recon unit can expose enemies, allowing backline mortars to completely wipe them out with little counterplay. This creates a meta where players can exploit spotting mechanics and rely heavily on indirect fire, which feels unfair and reduces tactical variety. Spotting itself is another major issue. Enemy detection mechanics make offensive play frustrating, often forcing players into a defensive posture even when…

This game is pretty clunky. The campaign mechanics are really confusing at first. There is no mouse over info on units, map locations, etc. Some of the flags are really far from the starting locations and while your troops are in transit to the flag get blown up and almost entirely annihilated. Aside from the confusion of what troops are best to send into the field and having no idea how to manage battlefield tactics at the beginning, this game is even fun while you're losing. Ground Troops: It would be nice if there was something added telling you which troops are best to stack against certain specs. I had a single scout kill off multiple enemies while having SS Heavy Inf get slaughtered by a sniper close range... Tanks: All the tank/tactical vehicles descriptions really suck to let you know how it actually preforms. Can this thing take a hit? Is it a paper tiger? I guess when in doubt just keep spamming something at the bases...

Lots of fun for a low price. There is still a way's to go and you can see much will be added (no anti tank guns for now, by example) but the gameplay is really fun. I pulled an all nighter finishing a campaign, which I never do unless I'm pretty hooked.
