Beggar's Road

*I RECOMMEND THE DEMO. 6/10 The game itself is on to something, it has a style about it, (Hire Some Real People Tho, the AI art is soulless) the main problem is the full game isn't much more than the demo. You explore a small region, you have a few unique encounters before your first repeat and then you notice how small the game immediately feels. The Combat is BAREBONES and easily Abused, the Gambling while fun at first is BAREBONES and easily Abused (See a Pattern?) This game needed another year of development because even without it, it has enough style and fun to keep me entertained for 3.2 hours, but not for a second longer.

Seems like a decent game all in all but I've now tried 10 different times to make progress as different characters and keep dying in stupid situations. Any time you die you have to start from the very beginning and play through the same story beats over and over making it wildly monotonous. I just died in another run where I had not only plate armor but the best sword I could afford (+4) damage and still died to someone with 1 strength and 2 defense. Basically, buy this game if you're fantastic at dealing with monotony, if not then find something else.

I recently purchased Beggar's Road based off of a YouTube stream I watched and largely enjoyed a play through. The game is fun and has intriguing and sometimes frustrating mechanics (in particular Beggar's Bluff game). All said and done though, for $7.99, its a good buy and a nice entry point. The standard difficulty is very easy though so I'd recommend ramping it up. The overall game took me roughly 5 hours which is pretty quick. I mean I believe I can keep going as it didn't truly "end." It more just said I achieved the highest status. I'd love to say a Beggar's Road 2 at some point or a healthy DLC to expand the base-game because I could see myself playing this more. Its just complicated enough to be fun and the personalities you interact with seem unique and different. No idea how it will feel on a second or third playthrough and if everything meaningfully changes tho. All in all for $7.99 (and price is determining score), I'd give this an 7/10. -1 for being too short, -1 for a very limited map, -1 for not enough of walkthrough -specifically on Beggar's Bluff, and -1 for being very basic. + 3 For the characters (NPCs not your team), +2 for the events, +2 for the impa…

I enjoyed this game immensely... Except that it's far too short and there are quite a few bugs in how the quests are handled. Most of them don't appear to be game breaking, though there are reports of quest-lines getting bugged out. Regardless, it was a fun experience with my only complaint being that I want more expansive maps, longer quest lines, and overall just more of the world to explore. It's got good bones, but even on a complete playthrough it feels a bit "Demo" like.
