Plague Road

While the art style is very cool, that's about its one strong point. The gameplay gets pretty boring and grindy fast, but I found it to be a fair enough game to play in the background while doing something else. It's a pretty difficult games, especially towards the end, and there is very little guidance as to how to play the game, so there's a lot you have to figure out for yourself. If you are defeated, you permanently lose all members of your party, so there's pretty harsh penalties for failing. All in all, it was definetely not worth the money, especially at $20, and I would not recommend it. Tips if you want to actually beat it: keep one character of each type in your party, and retire all extra survivors into their respective buildings so you get double xp. In my final party, I had two characters with field damage abilities (I recommend runaway train on an engineer as it does the most total damage, followed by the soldier's field damage ability), two with the ability to freeze, a nurse (angelic protection is the best skill to have if you can get it), and a witch with overgrowth. Use freezing and overgrowth against characters that are melee only to keep them at bay and free…

There is a lot of promise here. The art style is really cool (even if a little convoluted). But the combat, sadly, ends up being awful. I would reset the game if I entered a combat that I couln't freeze all plague beasts from the start, because those little things they summon attack me about FIVE TIMES EACH right after they're summoned. I HOPE it is a bug. And when I got to the stages I couldn't reach through train, I gave up. I really tried. But my time is worth a lot more than watch for 20 minutes my party be slaughtered by tiny minions every time I try to face more than one plague beast. Sorry dudes.

Aesthetically cool- but an exercise in tedium. An absolute heap of grind to navigate, and a load of fights that are not only difficult to avoid, but also punish you, since initiating one gives any nearby enemy a few moments to automatically initiate a fight with you, chaining fights together in an obnoxious manner.

It's super simple and broken, has all kinds of flaws, but it sure does look pretty, it has Jim Sterling as the narrator, and it's enjoyable enough if what I just mentioned doesn't bother you. Also, the thing basically has no story other than a bit of Jimmy's narration whenever you reach a new area. tl;dr: it's a very basic, kind of sh*tty srpg. Go play Eiyuu Senki instead, or any of the other much better srpgs on steam and elsewhere. This is a clear case of style over substance. It looks and sounds pretty, but it plays like a pile of burning refuse. It has a nice aesthetic, but it plays like a sh*tty phone game. Don't waste your money on this.
