Beyond the Breach

"Beyond the Breach" is a sincerely made low poly 3D puzzle game where you wander around, putting boxes on trigger pads etc etc etc. There's a lot of technical hiccups and a serious lack of polish that will deter a lot of gamers, unfortunately, from wonky controls and lack of visual customisation, this is tough one to recommend. This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. There's an element of charm to this student/starter project (not that you would know that's what it is without delving into the dev update comments!). For what the game is, it's an ok few minutes of solving some simple puzzles in what looks like a Portal-inspired world, with an eerily familiar alarm sound. As a start, it has the feel of a proof-of-concept alpha which could be built out into a far more detailed and complex world with additional skills and interactivity options. It's not groundbreaking, it's not the height of skill, but for two people just starting out in the game dev industry, this is a relatively positive first project which is deserving of praise just for putting it into the world. The initial comms/support and updates that were made show that the devs really cared and that is something that they should hold on to and that players (of any game by any dev) should not discourage through destructive criticism or comments with no substance or context.

Easy 100% achievos, few puzzles but not hard, had a couple of bugs happen but game ran fine besides that.

This is the sort of game where I'd appreciate a neutral option instead of positive or negative. The concept is neat and the general way this game presents itself is interesting, you can tell a lot of care went into it. Unfortunately, the skills of the developers aren't quite there yet. I'm sure this was a great learning opportunity for them, and for that reason I'm glad they chose to make and publish this game, but it is a very good thing they decided to make it free. There's just not enough polish here for it to be worth playing, almost everything feels rough and it's too easy to soft lock yourself as I found out the hard way. I didn't really enjoy it that much, but I think the effort should be commended and I hope the devs are successful with getting careers started in the gaming industry.

An hour of puzzle solving, it's pretty good.

clunky but with some improvement could be decent. The starting tutorial is boring you can't move and do anything for over a minute at a time. The elevator puzzle timing is a bit off, you can only just switch into the security bot before it gets too high. Some of the sound effects also hurts my ears.
