About Bonfire

Bonfire is a bite-sized tactical RPG about journey and failure.
Hildie's world has collapsed. She and her group of heroic misfits journey through a desolate world that’s well past saving. Her quest to destroy the Faceless Overlord of the Mournfolk may be hopeless, but she's kinda into lost causes.
Bonfire is a procedurally generated, deeply tactical RPG with a rapid turn-based battle system and heroes who care a little too much. A game of plans that go sideways, crazy builds that somehow work, quick gameplay sessions, and a delightfully gloomy story that binds it all together.
RAPID TACTICS
Bonfire is all about complex strategy emerging from simple rules. The rapid turn-based battle system drops menu navigation in favor of contextual abilities and tactical item use. Each click is a move, each move is significant, and each encounter is a puzzle to solve.JOURNEY
The gloomy world of Bonfire is procedurally generated. You'll travel to really depressing-sounding places, expand your arsenal of tactical options, meet a cast of rather odd survivors, and struggle to survive yourself. The game is designed for endless play, but its story actually goes somewhere. And yes -- there's even an ending.EXPERIMENTATION
Making your own builds and party comps is where it's at! Bonfire classes are designed around subtle synergies to work in any possible combination. As your pool of available heroes, abilities and items increases, you'll be able to experiment with more and more interesting setups that don't fall under common RPG archetypes.FAILURE
Bonfire is difficult. The challenge, however, doesn't come from spiteful RNG coin tosses. While you often have to make the best of a situation, success depends on your setup and tactical flexibility. Each decision is final, and each mistake may be fatal, but runs are bite-sized enough to allow for quick adjustments.SHOWERS OF BLOOD & COINS
This honestly should be at the top of this list. What Steam players say

Bonfire is the closest thing we have to a deterministic non-position-based Darkest Dungeon! I played hundreds of hours the old version, and this version is looking to be beautiful! Don't be fooled by the cartoonish graphics! It is HARD and pretty tense! Food management is a cool new factor emphasizing the grim-dark situation, but in my 2.3 hours of gameplay of the new version as of now (and having to starve a lil bit due to no food) I think it would be cool if it were a lil bit easier to get more food, maybe even for a lot of gold! The dev is still balancing this, but IMHO the combat and class combination is already Darkest-Dungeon level awesome!5 found this helpful
Bonfire Review This game has the potential to be a good game, but it has some SERIOUS issues that ruin the entire experience. I really tried to like this game, and feel like I gave it more than a fair shake. The simple fact is that this game is a very slow grind that rapidly becomes even slower. Your choice of characters is limited to the first three, and it feels like any deviation is severely punishing due to a loss in defense and/or healing. These limitations may be circumvented by grinding enough skill points to add effects to your abilities, but I'm not about to take the time to do that. Harder quests seem to be dependent on your ability to spam heavy damage or instant kill items. All other item types don't have enough impact to take. The mechanic of permanent damage is interesting, but often leads you into positions where you're pretty much doomed to die once your motivation meter becomes too hard to fill to reset your maximum health. With all these complaints, I feel like it'd be disingenuous to not make at least some recommendations: -Decrease experience required in the later levels dramatically. This game is fairly slow moving as it is, and speeding progression up…4 found this helpful

It's a turn based combat game which grants you a lot of variations for your playstyle based on the character combinations and item loadout. It's also very addicting, which you can see from my playtime.1 found this helpful

I keep returning to this game. It's very easy to jump back into and progress a bit - most of my games are either a time commitment or an addictive timesink that I have to cut myself off after a while, but Bonfire has become a relaxing experience that I can always open for 30 minutes without feeling lost.
