Breath of the Forest

In my opinion 'Breath of the forest' has received more attention to the adventure part, the physics and also those of the enemies / combat are not like some other VR games but this does not take away the challenge in the game. A demo is also available for those who want to try it out first. In 'Breath of the forest' you are a native of a tribe chosen by Mother Nature to protect the fauna and flora. This is also based on Brazilian stories. The game does not play in an open world but instead you will move locations from one location to another via teleports, the different locations do not feel compact either, but rather wide, large enough to explore, search and to enjoy the surroundings. The graphics are for the cartoonish style the game is presented in is quite good, you can recognize the structure of everything well with clear details. What I really liked were the wild animals that you can spot in the worlds, small sparrows, colorful parrots, small and large foxes, and so much more so don't forget to browse the surroundings every now and then. We don't often see games about the indigenous people of South America. This game is something unique, especially in VR where we have zombie shooters, escape rooms, and rhythm games galore (don't even get me started on the anime stuff). I don't know this Brazilian devs, but I do feel like maybe this was a passion project that maybe got too big. Unfortunately, the end product is barely functional. There is only a language option in the settings. There is only teleportation, no smooth or snap turning. The teleportation works maybe 75% of the time. Many times you can't just find a place to put a teleport location to. Even something as simple as selecting menu items or clicking on the dialogue box to get the next dialogue is something cumbersome and liable to fail. The combat is too simple. You can basically wave your spear. Not sure the shield does anything. Also, the bow & arrow mechanic here is among the worst I have experienced in VR. There's also hit box / hit registration issues. Good game, the style is very different from the most common games in virtual reality and is quite fun, I recommend.

I really love the atmosphere of this game. I love its simple but effective aesthetics, and I would be willing to overlook the bugs, the lifeless static presence of NPCs (and animals), the approximation of the animations and many interactions, but unfortunately some parts of the game (for example the "on rail" canoe section) show the side to various really serious flaws: - unnatural camera movements that cause motion sickness; - failed/unpredictable collision detection during weapon use; - savegames that do not respect the point reached, pushing you back to the beginning of the level. This game desperately needs a extra month of development. The developer SHOULD work on it, following negative users feedback. As it stands, sadly it's a BAD experience that generates physical discomfort and angers in the player. Such a shame. PLEASE, FZ LABS... work on it. Your digital creature deserves more than this.
