About Brighter Shores
Brighter Shores is an all new adventure from award winning MMORPG designer Andrew Gower. Explore a land of magic and mysteries, with a huge number of professions to try, and something new to find around every corner. Brighter Shores features an ongoing story and hundreds of hours of gameplay.
As the newest recruit in the Hopeport town guard, you are looking to make a name for yourself. This soon turns out to be a more challenging role than you had anticipated, with a strange storm raging over the harbor and unrest from the local goblins.
You will discover powerful magic sources and become one of the legendary classes of old: Cryoknight, Guardian or Hammermage. Which is fortunate, because something is corrupting the deepest reaches of the nearby Hopeforest, and only through the strength of your new-found powers will you be able to deal with it.
Learn a diverse range of professions, such as Fisher, Forager, Chef.
Woodcutter, Miner, Alchemist
Stonemason, Merchant, Blacksmith, and many more!
Encounter a huge variety of fantastical foes over the course of your adventures.
The game will be constantly expanding, with new content being released in an episodic format. Each episode features its own unique side quests, professions and lands, as well as advancing the central story.
There are hours and hours of content you can play for free. However, if you want more stories, professions and places to explore, you can buy a Premium Pass. A Premium Pass gives you many benefits, including access to all released episodes:

Soooooo many level locks even in the mega early game in the tutorial area. Why TF am I being blocked from trying to fight random stuff and getting slapped in the face by them?2 found this helpful
Way too grindy and combat is a joke if the enemy mobs can just always hit harder than you can because they automatically get better dice rolls than you do2 found this helpful
I've only played for a total of 7 minutes since I got this game nearly two years ago. I check in every so often to see if I can play in my preferred window size and resolution. Still nope. Giving up.
Another of those games where I just want the option for a "neutral" review because I don't specifically dislike anything enough to give it a downvote. But I also don't really like it enough to continue playing (and paying) long-term. The graphics are dated-looking in a way that feels nostalgia-driven (fine by me), music is pretty good, the "NPC run" is hilarious, and so are the sassy dialogue options. The map has an interesting aerial POV that I could probably get used to. But the opening quests feel a little generic and fetch-y (we've got a goblin invasion and an archer needs me to find her bow for her while she just stands around? really?) and being auto-booted for inactivity is weird. The general vibe is like meeting a new person who seems approachable enough, but is so bland you couldn't actually imagine yourself as their friend. I might check this out again... maybe... after it's out of Early Access mode.
When it comes to the good: this is probably the only game I've been able to comfortably play with only touchpad, in an armchair, while listening to an audiobook. The graphics are pretty decent. I enjoyed that some NPCs react different to your character if you have armor with the "Guards" prefix. The bad: This game as a steep early grind, with no discernible reason. You quickly find out that to be able to go to the next step of some early-game quests (I'm talking the third and fourth quest you get) you need to grind up professions to a pretty high level, with nothing that makes the grind feel meaningful. And if you were to do the grind doing very repetitive tasks a few hours, what do you get? Well, the next step of the quest, where you realized that you need to grind for a few more hours in a different profession. Nah, skip this one. Brighter Shores doesn't respect your time.
