Buster Breaks Out

Best brick breaker I ever played. If there's a slight chance you're interested - buy it. Don't let this gem die in obscurity. The core gameplay is solid; the updates are frequent; the builds are fun and numerous; music absolutely slaps; amiga-inspired art and cheeky humor tied the experience together for me. As of wrighting this review, in early access, it will take you 50-ish hours of gameplay just to complete every challenge and difficulty which is a STEAL for the price and also fun. Did I mention this game is really fun?

A great Arkanoid-like with roguelite characteristics! The game allows you to make "broken" builds that are too OP, but that's the fun of it. The moment to moment play is frenetic and skill based (with, let's be honest, a hefty dose of RNG), while the upgrade shop and vending machine add the strategic layer. It could probably use a balance pass, cuz some balls are must take in all situations (like split ball) and some are so weak I never take them. Same for the vending machine. Also, I avoided using the vending machine at all for a while until I realized the power of the items. Looking forward to more from this developer!

Buster Breaks Out is a roguelite spin on the classic Breakout arcade game with unfortunately flawed core mechanics. Rather than losing your ball if it goes through the bottom as in most Breakout-style games, your ball has a 10 health that decreases any time it hits any edge of the screen. This means that comboing off the top or sides is actually the worst thing that could happen, rather than the goal. Thus, the game becomes more about trying to keep the ball bouncing mostly straight up and down until you can get a shot that can ricochet around between bricks. However, the base speed is quite high, so accuracy is difficult, and being a little bit off can mean you lose the entire life in one bad bounce. This is made worse by the fact that you can easily get trapped in a corner -- you can't move any of your paddle out of the play area, so if the ball is moving vertically by an edge, you can't angle to get out and will frequently send yourself into a death combo with the ceiling. The net effect is that you spend your time trying to avoid frustration, rather shooting for an exciting combo. It’s simply less fun than the normal Breakout mechanics. this game rules. it is an amazing game and it it so much really fun. you should buy it because it is so much fun!

This game may not look like much, and the runs have a tencendy to either be very fun or very frustrating, but for 5 bucks, I already got my moneys worth out of this and I am 100% sure I will get atleast another 20 hours before I am done with it.
