I played this over a dozen years ago and I’m so happy it’s finally released on Steam! This is my favorite Kairosoft game, and I think the older Kairosoft titles have a unique charm. The "Button Era," where mobile games had navigation buttons, was perfect to me; they didn't have too many things to manage, they were simple and cozy. Compared to new games that require you to pay attention to so many things, this game offers simplicity, even if it means the playtime might be shorter. But for me, no matter how many times I Start a New Game, it’s always fun!

I've liked some Kairosoft games and disliked at least one other. This one falls under the latter. Mechanically the game is bizarre. You hire staff, set out tables/decorations, pick your menu etc which all seems normal. But getting new food is a mixture of customers giving you new recipes because they're happy or you paid to do special promotions, and going out to forage for ingredients with your staff... which is partially random. Then you work on dishes every night, permanently consuming the ingredients you found to make your dishes more expensive, tastier or more appealing. If the combination is right, you get a brand new dish instead. It's a bizarre, unsatisfying and slow system. I want to focus on this dish development/recipe unlocking system in particular as it's such a terrible mechanic. When picking ingredients to consume to improve a dish, the only info you get is how suitable it is, like bad, normal, perfect. Except sometimes you'll pick perfect fits and barely improve anything. Sometimes picking bad stuff actually improves your dish a lot. It's a convoluted mechanic that basically requires you to use an external resource to utilise properly. Terrible mechanic to it's co…
